    Hi All,

I would like to discuss the family origin of the Guru's i.e. the Khatri lineage.

    Where did Khatri's originate from?

    What does Khatri mean?

Is Khatri the same as Kshatriya?

As per Kshatriya Varna of keeping long hair, did the Khatri's do this?

    Are all Khatri's traders?

    Other there other famous Khatri's?

Why did most Khatri's not become Sikh?

Re: The Sikh Guru's and Khatri Origin.

Khatri - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Khatri
(Punjabi: ਖੱਤਰੀ, Hindi: खत्री) is the Punjabi language adaptation or pronunciation of Sanskrit word Kshatriya (Hindi: क्षत्रिय, Kşhatriya)[1][2][3] In Punjab region the local Kshatriya are known as Khatri, in fact they are one and the same. Khatri is a Punjabi language word for Kshatriya the warrior caste. The Kshatriya are the traditional members of the Hindu military order. As administrators and rulers, Kshatriya were assigned with protecting Dharma, and serving humanity and the world. In course of time, however, as a result of economic and political exigencies, the Khatri also expanded into other occupations.

As my opinion are concerned with caste ,clan theory .I just beleive that it is a big mystery
In same community, clan you will find people with tall height, fair skin and in the same community There are people with dark skin, short height. They both claim from the same clan.I have seen this in my family and extended family as well

    So who are khatri's ?

    where from they originated
    etc

are questions which don't have any answer

I though excerpts from the Dasam Granth maybe interesting.

One interesting difference between Aroras and Khatris is the colour of bangles (churah), which brides wear during the marriage ceremony. Arora women wear white bangles (Chitta churah) and Khatri women wear red ones (Laal churah), along with their bridal wear. But in many areas of Punjab, Arora women women red bangles as well and vice versa.

I think originally they were seen as distinct and separate, however, intermarriage does occur frequently among them.

    Back to topic.

Any comments on the sections fro Dasam Granth?

What I know about arora's is that they were khatri's settled in aror city of sind which was destroyed as they are also under the category of kshatriya

As far dasam granth is concerned

    here is quote from it

'Khharti Ka Poot Hon, Baahman Ko Nahey, Kaiy Tapp Aavat Hon Jo Karon'. "I am son of Khatri and not of Brahman who does 'Tap'."

BTW these types of quote's makes me suspicious about the authenticity of dasam granth

My reading suggests that kds ji is correct. Sometimes a varna has a unique name in a particular locale and the general name is not used. So with arora -- basically a khatri in a particular place in India.

    Waheguru ji ki fateh

A Sikh of Guru Granth Sahib jeeo must always remember that Guru Sahibaan's, Bhagats, Pir, Sikhs who wrote Gurbani came from different caste, class, social and geographical background. Still Guru Sahibans gave equal status to them and compiled them together as "Dhur Ki Bani".

It is Akal Purakh Waheguru's hukum that one is born in rich family and other in poor.
In Divinity it makes no difference !

    Hi,

Thanks for reminding us of this, but if you note my footnote, it is actually this tukh.

The subject is the Guru's origin and their family tree. I do not think there is any harm in discussing that so long as one does not think they are higher or lower.

    Randip Singh ji,

    I didn't expect a "Hi" from you.

"Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh" or "Sat Sri Akal" should be a Gursikh norm.

Gurbani clearly states that Guru Sahib ji considered thyself as lowest of the low.
Satguru only sought company of the ones who meditate on Almighty.
That is the real family of WAHEGURU.
