Phagwara, May 14, 2012 (Rajneesh Madhok) World Mother’s day organized by Swachta Abhiyan Manch in collaboration with Bharat Vikas Parishad and Helping Hands Community at Satkartarian Mohalla. Honorable (Prof) Dr. Sarla Bhardwaj (President Award Winner) said that the first word the baby utters with the encouragement of mother that is Maa or Mama. This is the first word when brain starts to match up objects with names. So, the mother is the first and the best friend of the child. With her encouragement the baby responds. She keep on nurturing the baby, keep on talking with him/her everytime during bathtime to sleep. Develops his/her taste, play with him/her. She stressed on the burning issue of female foeticide. She said the time is not far away when the boys will have to travel thousand kms across the country to find themselves a bride if the female foeticide problem could not be checked. The girls have not been vanished overnight. This is the result of decades of sex determination tests and female foeticide that has acquired genocide proportions. If this problem could not be checked then the next census will reveal a further fall in child sex rations thoughout the country. Who is responsible for this declining sex ratio in Punjab which is considered as the worst since 1991.

Unless and until the dowry related problems will not be checked we people keep on suffering and our worthy mothers will be neglected in society.

Now when the situation has deteriorated and the Government has not taking steps to check this problem. She is right that the girls have not vanished overnight. Why sex determination tests are still prevailing and why the abortions of girl child is being made. When we feel that there is continuous fall in girls population. Then why the social organizations don't make efforts to aware the people especially in rural areas to tackle this problem
