ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਪੂਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਪੂਰਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥
Pūrā parabẖ ārāḏẖi▫ā pūrā jā kā nā▫o. Nānak pūrā pā▫i▫ā pūre ke gun gā▫o. ||1||
Complete creator contemplated, complete so is known. Nanak, found the complete one, sing virtues of so complete.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਮੀਤ ॥ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਏਕਾਗਰ ਚੀਤ ॥
Parabẖ kī usṯaṯ karahu sanṯ mīṯ. Sāvḏẖān ekāgar cẖīṯ.
Pious learned friends, praise the creator. So focused and concentrated in mind.

ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸਹਜ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਨ ਨਾਮ ॥ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਤ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
Sukẖmanī sahj gobinḏ gun nām. Jis man basai so hoṯ niḏẖān.
Sukhmani is virtues of the creator and peacefulness. Mind that embodies, such becomes a treasure.

ਸਰਬ ਇਛਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਸਭ ਲੋਇ ॥
Sarab icẖẖā ṯā kī pūran ho▫e. Parḏẖān purakẖ pargat sabẖ lo▫e.
All expectations so fulfilled. Such person becomes a leader and so famous in the world.

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਪਾਏ ਅਸਥਾਨੁ ॥ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਆਵਨ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
Sabẖ ṯe ūcẖ pā▫e asthān. Bahur na hovai āvan jān.
Gets highest of all places. Does not come again in birth and death.

ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਖਾਟਿ ਚਲੈ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥
Har ḏẖan kẖāt cẖalai jan so▫e. Nānak jisahi parāpaṯ ho▫e. ||5||
Such humble earns creator’s wealth. Nanak, such who so receives.

ESSENCE: In the salok of final Astpadi 24th, Guru ji state the completeness of creator. So finding the complete one in contemplation, now to sing virtues of such complete one.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 24, 5th sabad describe the importance of recognizing virtues of the creator. Guru ji emphasize to be focused and in concentration contemplation of creator’s virtues. Guru ji state that Sukhmani means a peaceful reflection on the virtues of the creator and treasures abound for those who do. Such persona achieves wishes and fame. Gets to be recognized for higher state and is unperturbed by birth and death cycling.

Guru ji conclude that one so receives creator’s wealth.

PS: It is perhaps worth reflecting that the emphasis is on wealth that does not leave us and is with us everywhere. Such wealth is creator’s understanding. This equips us to deal with all in consonance, bar none.
