Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)
Man sācẖā mukẖ sācẖā so▫e. Avar na pekẖai ekas bin ko▫e.
One whose mind is pure, only can such can utter pure. None is seen other than one creator.
    ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਲਛਣ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਇ ੧॥
    Nānak ih lacẖẖaṇ barahm gi▫ānī ho▫e. ||1||
Nanak, these are the attributes of such most learned.

    Eight stanzas hymn

Barahm gi▫ānī sabẖ sarisat kā karṯā. Barahm gi▫ānī saḏ jīvai nahī marṯā.
Most learned is architect of all the universe. Most learned forever lives and not dies.

Barahm gi▫ānī mukaṯ jugaṯ jī▫a kā ḏāṯā. Barahm gi▫ānī pūran purakẖ biḏẖāṯā.
Most learned is the provider of path to salvation and giver of life. Most learned so complete, knows all and creates all.

Barahm gi▫ānī anāth kā nāth. Barahm gi▫ānī kā sabẖ ūpar hāth.
Most learned is support to the forlorn. Most learned provides encouragement and support to all.

Barahm gi▫ānī kā sagal akār. Barahm gi▫ānī āp nirankār.
Most learned has created all. Most learned is so such a formless creator.

Barahm gi▫ānī kī sobẖā barahm gi▫ānī banī. Nānak barahm gi▫ānī sarab kā ḏẖanī. ||8||8||
Only most learned can describe such most learned. Nanak, one knowing of the creator owns all.
With this 8th Astpadi we have covered first 8 of the total 24 or 33 1/3% of sukhmani Sahib.

Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.

    Sat Sri Akal.

PS: I have posted this a bit early. I will start posting with the 9th Astpadi around Monday February 20th, 2012.

If I may post a quiz to just cherish the message in this Astpadi.

The focus in this Astpadi is ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ/esteemed-most learned.

    Question is,

Who you believe Guru ji point to in this Astpadi vis-a-vis ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ /Esteemed-most learned?
HINT: Think of the first pankti in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji!
Absolutely patient and brilliant teaching from Guru ji.

    Let us share some thoughts.

    Sat Sri Akal.

Since you're here... we have a small favor to ask...

More people are visiting & reading SPN than ever but far fewer are paying to sustain it. Advertising revenues across the online media have fallen fast. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Donating to SPN's is vote for free speech, for diversity of opinions, for the right of the people to stand up to religious bigotry. Without any affiliation to any organization, this constant struggle takes a lot of hard work to sustain as we entirely depend on the contributions of our esteemed writers/readers. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too... Fund our efforts and together we can keep the world informed about the real Sikh Sikhi Sikhism. If everyone who writes or reads our content, who likes it, helps us to pay for it, our future would be much more secure. Every Contribution Matters, Contribute Generously!
