ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਖੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥
Saṯ purakẖ jin jāni▫ā saṯgur ṯis kā nā▫o. Ŧis kai sang sikẖ uḏẖrai Nānak har gun gā▫o. ||1||
Such who recognized the eternal omni-present one, name of such is the eternal creator. Nanak, in company of those, a learner is saved from ill deeds, so do sing virtues of the creator.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਜਿਹਬਾ ਏਕ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਅਨੇਕ ॥ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥
Jihbā ek usṯaṯ anek. Saṯ purakẖ pūran bibek.
One tongue and many virtues. Eternal creator complete realization.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬੋਲ ਨ ਪਹੁਚਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥
Kāhū bol na pahucẖaṯ parānī. Agam agocẖar parabẖ nirbānī.
People cannot reach by so speaking. Creator without desires is beyond reproach from body elements.

ਨਿਰਾਹਾਰ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
Nirāhār nirvair sukẖ▫ḏā▫ī. Ŧā kī kīmaṯ kinai na pā▫ī.
Needing no nourishment, no animosity, comforting. No one has determined value of such.

ਅਨਿਕ ਭਗਤ ਬੰਦਨ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਹਿ ॥ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ॥
Anik bẖagaṯ banḏan niṯ karahi. Cẖaran kamal hirḏai simrahi.
Many humble followers respectfully address everyday. Nimble feet so reflected in heart.

ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪਨੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਐਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਪਨੇ ॥੫॥
Saḏ balihārī saṯgur apne. Nānak jis parsāḏ aisā parabẖ japne. ||5||
Always in respectful awe for my esteemed teacher. Nanak, through blessing of which, to so reflect on such a creator.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that those who recognize the true one, will know it to be the eternal creator. Company of such people saves one from ills and so sing the virtues of the creator .

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 18, 5th sabad describe the infiniteness and vastness of the creator. Virtues so many to speak or realize fully, we are limited in our faculties to address the one beyond desire, reproach. Such beyond value holds no animosity and provides nourishment, comfort. Many cherish and remember such in the heart and contemplation.

Guru ji conclude as to be in such respectful one and only so blessed reflect on such a creator.
