ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਨਨਹਾਰ ॥ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਉਧਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੧॥
Sarab kalā bẖarpūr parabẖ birthā jānanhār. Jā kai simran uḏẖrī▫ai Nānak ṯis balihār. ||1||
Creator has all power and is knowing of suffering. Nanak forever respectfully appreciates, in contemplation of such we are saved.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾਹੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਈਐ ॥ ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
Man mūrakẖ kāhe billā▫ī▫ai. Purab likẖe kā likẖi▫ā pā▫ī▫ai.
Foolish mind why lament. The past deeds done produce what is received.

ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰੁ ॥ ਅਵਰ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਤੂ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਚਿਤਾਰੁ ॥
Ḏūkẖ sūkẖ parabẖ ḏevanhār. Avar ṯi▫āg ṯū ṯisėh cẖiṯār.
Creator is the giver of pain and comfort. Leave others and focus on such.

ਜੋ ਕਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਨੁ ॥ ਭੂਲਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਅਜਾਨ ॥
Jo kacẖẖ karai so▫ī sukẖ mān. Bẖūlā kāhe firėh ajān.
What such does take it as comfort. Why you the unknowing, wander as lost.

ਕਉਨ ਬਸਤੁ ਆਈ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗ ॥ ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਸਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਪਤੰਗ ॥
Ka▫un basaṯ ā▫ī ṯerai sang. Lapat rahi▫o ras lobẖī paṯang.
What articles came with you. Buzzing around in enjoyable pleasure like a greedy moth.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
Rām nām jap hirḏe māhi. Nānak paṯ seṯī gẖar jāhi. ||4||
Contemplate the creator in the heart. Nanak with honor so go to final abode.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji describe the creator as all powerful and knowing of all. We are saved in respectful contemplation of such and to be so thankful.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 15, 4th sabad describe the situation of one complaining and in anguish. Guru ji describe that one reaps what one sows and the creator is one to focus on as source of all that is experiences. What happens is to be taken as comfort rather be lost and wander. Guru ji state what did anyone bring with them to this world to so turn into fluttering greedy moth.

Guru ji conclude that be cognizant of the creator in the heart and so complete the journey.
