ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
Karaṇ kāraṇ parabẖ ek hai ḏūsar nāhī ko▫e. Nānak ṯis balihārṇai jal thal mahī▫al so▫e. ||1||
Creator of creation and doer is one and there is no second. Nanak so such be exalted for which there is water, land and all above it.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗੁ ॥ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਗੁ ॥
Karan karāvan karnai jog. Jo ṯis bẖāvai so▫ī hog.
Is able to do and direct to be done. What such wishes, so happens.

ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਨਹਾਰਾ ॥ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
Kẖin mėh thāp uthāpanhārā. Anṯ nahī kicẖẖ pārāvārā.
Creating and destroying in the blink of an eye. There are no limits for such.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਧਰ ਰਹਾਵੈ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
Hukme ḏẖār aḏẖar rahāvai. Hukme upjai hukam samāvai.
Created under direction, existing without support. Under direction created, by order merges.

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਅਨਿਕ ਰੰਗ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥
Hukme ūcẖ nīcẖ bi▫uhār. Hukme anik rang parkār.
High and low occupations are per direction. Many varieties of activities per direction created.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
Kar kar ḏekẖai apnī vadi▫ā▫ī. Nānak sabẖ mėh rahi▫ā samā▫ī. ||1||
Testing the limits of self by creating again and again. Nanak, such is imbued in all.

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that many try to describe the creator but such is limitless. The creator creates with a variety of methods and of different types.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 11, 1st sabad review some virtues and ways of the creator. The creator does and gets done what such likes, creation and destruction of created in moments, no limits as creating and destruction continues and endless activities of all types so created.

Guru ji conclude that creator through so creation defines and is imbued in all.
