SGPC Chief, Jathedars, Saints barred using red beacon cars

AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), President, Avtar Singh Makkar, Sant Mann Singh Pehwawale, Sant Niranjan Das, Sant Hansaliwale set to loose the right of using red-beacons on top of their cars as per the new guidelines issued by the stet government.

It may be mentioned here that the Transport Department had earlier allowed even jathedars of all the five Takhts including Takht Patna Sahib and Takht Hazur Sahib outside Punjab, to use red lights atop their vehicles.

Besides aforesaid religiour leaders, SAD leader Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, Vice Chancellors, Director General School Education (DGSE), Chief Information Commissioner Rameshinder Singh, Chief Commissioner, Right to Service Commission, and Commissioner, Electricity Regulatory Commission have been denied the privilege.

In future, barring DGPs, Additional DGPs, IGs (Zonal) and SSPs, no police officer will be allowed to support a red light on his vehicle. A notification issued by the Transport Department on July 5 says the facility will be available to 13 categories of citizens.

Besides the Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, ministers, chief parliamentary secretaries, Speaker/Deputy Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Judges, Leader of the Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Members of Parliament from the state, Chief Secretary, Finance, Principal Secretaries and Administrative Secretaries, the Advocate-General and chairmen of boards will be entitled to the facility.

At the district level, the District and Sessions Judge, Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Income Tax Commissioner, State Transport Commissioner and Mayors have been allowed the facility.

A large section of police officers will also be affected by the notification. Range DIGs and IGs, except zonal, have been barred from putting the red light atop their vehicles and so have district planning board chiefs.

It is not only the red light which I am glad is being taken away but most of them including the SDO's-Sub Division Officers- a rank lower to the Deputy Commisioner have VIP flags on their cars. These should be also taken away.

Since you're here... we have a small favor to ask...

More people are visiting & reading SPN than ever but far fewer are paying to sustain it. Advertising revenues across the online media have fallen fast. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Donating to SPN's is vote for free speech, for diversity of opinions, for the right of the people to stand up to religious bigotry. Without any affiliation to any organization, this constant struggle takes a lot of hard work to sustain as we entirely depend on the contributions of our esteemed writers/readers. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too... Fund our efforts and together we can keep the world informed about the real Sikh Sikhi Sikhism. If everyone who writes or reads our content, who likes it, helps us to pay for it, our future would be much more secure. Every Contribution Matters, Contribute Generously!
