Manjit Singh Calcutta announces support to Congress

CHANDIGARH: In a major setback to SAD, Senior Akali leader and renowned Sikh scholar Manjit Singh Calcutta on Tuesday extended his support to the Congress. He said that only Congress could save Punjab from the clutches of Akalis. He declared his support to the party in the presence of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh, party in-charge for Punjab Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Managing Committee president Paramjit Singh Sarna and others.

Calcutta said, all through his life he had served the panth through Akali Dal and Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee as general secretary of the both. He said that it was no longer the same Akali Dal or the SGPC as both had become the hand-maids of the Badals. He maintained that it is in the interest of the panth and Punjab that Badal should be prevented from coming to power.

Both Charak and Capt Amarinder welcomed Calcutta’s support to the party and said, it was an indication and endorsement of the general perception that only the Congress could provide a good government and work in the interest of Punjab. On the occasion Pardeep Singh Walia, president Akali Jatha Amritsar (urban) and a member of the Working Committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal-Badal joined the Congress with 25 other senior party leaders from Amritsar. Walia promised that they will ensure the Congress wins all the five urban seats of Amritsar.

Perhaps lesser of two evils, Amarinder Singh is!

    Who knows! I don't.

I personally find it disgusting to have Badal talk and give speeches in Hindi. What a disgrace to hear those. If Chief Minister of Punjab (created/destroyed on so called linguistic basis of Punjabi) does not stick to the mother tongue, one wonders what message it sends!
