Respect For Guru

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was considered a Guru by the public when they found Creator qualities in Him.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji passed on Guru Gaddi to Guru Angad Dev Ji. So Guru Angad became Nanak and so on untill Gurgaddi is passed on to Guru Granth Sahib Ji- Now Gurbani is Nanak. So is every realized Soul. Nanak is the Creator Himself, present everywhere. One who realizes Him turns into Him. Gurbani confirms this fact over and over again.

Above lines are from a fellow member's post. It made me think a lot more clearly about the issue of expressing myself. I always had hard time expressing the same, but Yograj Ji said it very clearly. There is no difference between God and Guru, infact no difference anywhere at all. One needs to reach a point- Sabh Gobind hai.

Respecting our Guru is one initial step for a Sikh. It starts our relationship with our Guru. If we dont have any respect, we will not be able to believe His words. In Sikhism, all we need to do is FOLLOW GURU without ifs, buts and because, total surrender is needed.

Dhanaasaree, Fourth Mehl:
All the Sikhs and servants come to worship and adore You; they sing the sublime Bani of the Lord, Har, Har.
Their singing and listening is approved by the Lord; they accept the Order of the True Guru as True, totally True. ||1||
Chant the Lord's Praises, O Siblings of Destiny; the Lord is the sacred shrine of pilgrimage in the terrifying world-ocean.
They alone are praised in the Court of the Lord, O Saints, who know and understand the Lord's sermon. ||Pause||
He Himself is the Guru, and He Himself is the disciple; the Lord God Himself plays His wondrous games.
O servant Nanak, he alone merges with the Lord, whom the Lord Himself merges; all the others are forsaken, but the Lord loves him. ||2||5||11||

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ (ਗੁਰੂ-) ਤੀਰਥ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
gur kai sabadh sadh rehai samaaeae ||
They praise the True One, who is contained deep within all hearts. They are blessed and exalted by the Truest of the True. ||5||

ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਭ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥
sach salaahae sabh ghatt anthar sacho sach suhaavaniaa ||5||
They praise the True One, who is contained deep within all hearts. They are blessed and exalted by the Truest of the True. ||5||


ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰੇ ॥
sach saalaahee sadhaa hajoorae ||
Praise the True One, who is Ever-present.

By Guru's Grace, we come to behold the True One; from the True One, peace is obtained. ||6||


ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਵੈ ਸਚੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥
gur parasaadhee sach nadharee aavai sachae hee sukh paavaniaa ||6||
The True One permeates and pervades the mind within.

ਸਚੁ ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
sach man andhar rehiaa samaae ||
The True One permeates and pervades the mind within.

ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
sadhaa sach nihachal aavai n jaae ||
The True One is Eternal and Unchanging; He does not come and go in reincarnation.

ਸਚੇ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥
sachae laagai so man niramal guramathee sach samaavaniaa ||7||
Those who are attached to the True One are immaculate and pure. Through the Guru's Teachings, they merge in the True One. ||7||

ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
sach saalaahee avar n koee ||
Praise the True One, and no other.

ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
jith saeviai sadhaa sukh hoee ||
Serving Him, eternal peace is obtained.

Shalok, Third Mehl:
O Shaykh, you wander in the four directions, blown by the four winds; bring your mind back to the home of the One Lord.
Renounce your petty arguments, and realize the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
Bow in humble respect before the True Guru; He is the Knower who knows everything.
Burn away your hopes and desires, and live like a guest in this world.
If you walk in harmony with the True Guru's Will, then you shall be honored in the Court of the Lord.
O Nanak, those who do not contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord - cursed are their clothes, and cursed is their food. ||1||

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਚੁਕਾਏ ਸ਼ੇਖ਼! ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੇ ਲਿਆ; ਵਿੰਗੀਆਂ ਟੇਢੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ।
