Please elaborate. Suppose someone goes to a casino. He decides to play the roulette. The dealer calls for everyone to place their bets. This guy says "I want to play this game, but I don't want to place my chip on red or black." Dealer says: "Place your bets place. Red or black." Man says: "I really am committed to playing this game, I really am. But I'm not placing a bet." Dealer: "If you don't place a bet, you can't play." Man: "I want to play!" Dealer: "Then place a bet. Red or black." Man: "I like them equally! I like them both! Besides, why can't I come up with my own color, I really think yellow suits the board." Dealer: "There is no yellow here, only red or black. If you want to play the game and have a chance to win, place your bet." Man: "I want to play! But I don't want to place on red or black! Why is that so wrong? Why can't I use yellow?" Dealer: "If there was a yellow slot, you could put your chip on it. But there are only red or black. That's how this game is played. Want to play or not? Other players have placed their bets and are waiting." I'm very interested in hearing your religious beliefs, if you would be so kind as to share. Ah, so we finally learn your motivation for asking the question. You just want to know how to best approach your parents because you think that the sangat here are pretty much the same as them. It makes me feel a bit sad, honestly. There are some sangat members on here who are real gems, and I know that I've learned so much about Sikhi from people on this forum. One in particular guided me towards Guru Sahib in a way which I will be forever grateful for. You never know which Guru ka Sikh you will encounter, and if you have such good fortune that your path in life may be altered for the better. These kinds of things are what we consider real blessings. And yet, here you are just trying to find a good argument to present to your folks for cutting your hair. You've missed out on the treasure chest of invaluable jewels and diamonds, and are digging around in the dirt for a worthless shell. That's the analogy that comes to mind when I think about what you're doing here. [AoG]
