Engineering, procurement and construction conglomerate, Punj Lloyd group, has bagged the contract for five solar power projects in Punjab, including one at the holiest of Sikh shrines 'Harmandar Sahib' (popularly known as Golden Temple) in Amritsar.

The Golden Temple solar power project will be of 18 KWp (kilo-watt peak), a spokesman for Punj Lloyd said Thursday.

The other premises where the company will install solar power plants in the state include the Punjab Raj Bhawan (45 KWp), the Punjab assembly complex (20 KWp), the civil secretariat complex (12 KWp), all located in Chandigarh, and the Durgiana temple complex in Amritsar.

The contract for this has been given by the Punjab government's Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) on a turn-key basis.

The scope of work involves design, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of solar power plants including operation and maintenance for 10 years at all locations.

The contract will be executed by Punj Lloyd group's renewable energy arm, Punj Lloyd Delta Renewables.

Tariq Alam, chief executive officer, Punj Lloyd Delta Renewables, said: 'We are extremely proud of bagging this prestigious contract from PEDA.'

The project using solar photovoltaic technology has been awarded under the special area demonstration programme of the union ministry of new and renewable energy. All the solar power plants will have a total solar photovoltaic capacity of 106 KWp.

The project is scheduled to be executed over a period of 6 months.

The company is already providing solar lighting for the Commonwealth Games Village in New Delhi and is also executing India's largest solar-based project in Bihar.
