Order error: Sajjan to file response to CBI plea

Order error: Sajjan to file response to CBI plea - Delhi - City - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: A trial court on Tuesday allowed Congress leader Sajjan Kumar to file his response to a CBI application that has pointed out typographical error in an order on framing of charges against him in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

A typographical error in the order pronounced by the court against Kumar on Tuesday took everyone by surprise as Section 449 (house trespass), which carries a maximum punishment of life, appeared on the order sheet as Section 339 (wrongful restrainment) which carries a punishment of one month.

The CBI was quick to correct the error and inform the court. In an application, CBI counsel D P Singh requested the court to rectify the error saying that in the order on charges, Section 339 (wrongful restraint) has been mentioned as Section 449 (house trespass).

Additional sessions judge Sunita Gupta gave Kumar time till May 19 to respond to the CBI's contention.

The court also gave Kumar's counsel I U Khan a copy of the CBI application.
