Major Kalsi Recognized at Congressional Diwali Celebration

Received by email as a Press Release

On October 29, 2013, Major Kamaljeet Singh Kalsi, a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal-and one of only three Sikhs to be granted waivers to serve in the U.S. Army with their articles of faith intact-was publicly recognized for his military service by Congressman Joseph Crowley at a Diwali event on Capitol Hill. The event was attended by dozens of Congressional staffers and members of Congress. Earlier in the day, Major Kalsi also met with several Congressional offices to build support for the right of all Sikhs to serve in the U.S. military. The Sikh Coalition is inspired by Major Kalsi's example and encourages you to sign and share our petition to President Obama [ http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/o/1607/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=8101 ] in support of equal opportunity for all Sikh Americans who wish to serve in the U.S. military.

Since you're here... we have a small favor to ask...

More people are visiting & reading SPN than ever but far fewer are paying to sustain it. Advertising revenues across the online media have fallen fast. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Donating to SPN's is vote for free speech, for diversity of opinions, for the right of the people to stand up to religious bigotry. Without any affiliation to any organization, this constant struggle takes a lot of hard work to sustain as we entirely depend on the contributions of our esteemed writers/readers. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too... Fund our efforts and together we can keep the world informed about the real Sikh Sikhi Sikhism. If everyone who writes or reads our content, who likes it, helps us to pay for it, our future would be much more secure. Every Contribution Matters, Contribute Generously!
