Patiala Sarswati Award Winner and novelist Dalip Kaur Tiwana today addressed the delegates on the second last day of the National Integration Camp (NIC) being organised by Government of India's Northern Regional Language Centre (NRLC) and Punjabi University's SGTB National Integration Chair. While interacting with the delegates Tiwana said that her creative writing commenced with the publication of her first book of short stories "Sadhna" in 1961 which was declared book in its genre by the Government of Punjab's department of languages.
Dwelling on the importance of literature, she said "Literary works are portrayals of the thinking patterns and social norms prevalent in society. They are a depiction of the different facets of common man's life. Classical literary works serve as a food for thought and a tonic for imagination, creativity and national integration. Exposing an individual to good literary works is equivalent to providing people with the finest of educational opportunity".
Giving this information, Chair Professor Baltej Mann said that an Inter-faith prayer and cultural programme were also held today at Jasdev Singh Sandhu Public School in which Sarbjinder Singh, Incharge, Punjabi University's Guru Granth Sahib Studies Department spoke at length on the wisdom of saints of various denominations and regions in Guru Granth Sahib as an act of both religious and secular integration. The participants also visited the historical places at village Ajrawar and paid obeisance at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurudwara at Bahadurgarh.
