To recognize and celebrate the outstanding leadership, scholarship, and character of Sikh youths, Fremont Gurdwara has established an annual scholarship fund. California, college-bound, high school seniors are eligible for scholarships that range from $500 to $1000, for a total of $20,000.
The money can be used by the recipient for college expenses at any post secondary institution. A Gursikh Parivar has promised $ 10,000 for scholarships while $ 10,000 will be from Gurdwara Sahib.
To be considered for Fremont Gurdwara Sahib Scholarship awards, the applicant must be sikh, reside in California and be in his or her final year of high school( Class of 2010).Interested students should apply by the February 11, 2010 deadline. Applicants are required to submit a minimum of one letter of recommendation or up to two.
Each recommendation should be from individual(s) who are knowledgeable about your academic ability and can personally provide insight into your personal characteristics, achievements, motivation, and potential. Recommenders should email their letters of recommendation by the deadline to fgscholarship@gmail.com. A selection committee of highly qualifoed people has been organized to select the scholarship recipients.
Bhai Harjot Singh Khalsa, President of Fremont Gurdwara Sahib, hopes to set an example for other Guru Ghars looking to recognize Sikh youth. He further said money for theses scholarships was saved by volunteers doing the free rauls of sukhmani Sahib at Gurdwara Sahib during the past one year. For more information about the scholarship, please visit: www.fremontgurdwara.org.

Since you're here... we have a small favor to ask...

More people are visiting & reading SPN than ever but far fewer are paying to sustain it. Advertising revenues across the online media have fallen fast. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Donating to SPN's is vote for free speech, for diversity of opinions, for the right of the people to stand up to religious bigotry. Without any affiliation to any organization, this constant struggle takes a lot of hard work to sustain as we entirely depend on the contributions of our esteemed writers/readers. We do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too... Fund our efforts and together we can keep the world informed about the real Sikh Sikhi Sikhism. If everyone who writes or reads our content, who likes it, helps us to pay for it, our future would be much more secure. Every Contribution Matters, Contribute Generously!
