| |  | | | Sukhmani Sahib Astpadi 22 Sabad 1 / ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ੨੨ ਸਬਦ ੧
ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ Salok. Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੇ ਠਾਕੁਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਣਹਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਰ ॥੧॥ Jī▫a janṯ ke ṯẖākurā āpe varṯanhār. Nānak eko pasri▫ā ḏūjā kah ḏaristār. ||1|| Master of the living and life, by self so interacting everywhere. Nanak, only one so present, where has second been seen! ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥ Asatpaḏī. Eight stanzas hymn ਆਪਿ ਕਥੈ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਨਨੈਹਾਰੁ ॥ ਆਪਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥ Āp kathai āp sunnaihār. Āpėh ek āp bisthār. By self speaks and by self listener. By self is only one, by self so spread out. ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥ ਆਪਨੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਲਏ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ Jā ṯis bẖāvai ṯā sarisat upā▫e. Āpnai bẖāṇai la▫e samā▫e. As so likes, so creates the universe. By self volition, so such dissolves. ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਭਿੰਨ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਆਪਨ ਸੂਤਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰੋਇ ॥ Ŧum ṯe bẖinn nahī kicẖẖ ho▫e. Āpan sūṯ sabẖ jagaṯ paro▫e. Nothing happens besides you. So strung is the world in self thread.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ Jā ka▫o parabẖ jī▫o āp bujẖā▫e. Sacẖ nām so▫ī jan pā▫e. Honored creator so self willing, reveals knowledge by self. True understanding of the creator only such humble find. ਸੋ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਤਤ ਕਾ ਬੇਤਾ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਾ ਜੇਤਾ ॥੧॥ So samaḏrasī ṯaṯ kā beṯā. Nānak sagal sarisat kā jeṯā. ||1|| Viewing all in oneness, such becomes truth knowing. Nanak, such wins over the whole universe. Quote: ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji recognize the one and only creator, master of all life and interacting with all.
Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 22, 1st sabad describe the manifestations of the creator. By self speaks and listens, creates and dissolves the universe as so pleases, all strung like on a thread and nothing outside of such, the knowledge and understanding is gained by such as so self enables within.
Guru ji conclude that when one sees oneness in all, so the universe is conquered. | Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.
