The Islamic Foundation of Ireland (I.F.I.) has been involved since 1980 as the certifying authority for Halal meat exported from Ireland to Muslim countries. In 1985 a separate department within the Foundation, the Halal Meat Section, was set up to oversee the supervision and certification of Halal meat. The Islamic Foundation of Ireland is recognised as the sole Halal certifying authority in Ireland by Kuwait Municipality (Notice No. 46/83.) and by the General secretariat of Municipalities in the United Arab Emirates. TESCO Tesco has sold halal meat and halal meat products in selected stores since 2000, expanding rapidly by the end of the decade. Sainsburys go to HALAL Licenced Abattoirs Sainsburys say they don't want halal... but go to HALAL Licenced Abattoirs??????? The question is WHY go to HALAL Licenced Abattoirs??? Sainsbury, like a number of their competitors, are placing themselves in a no-man's land where their meat is halal enough through the prayer said at the point of slaughter to alienate many of their non-Muslim customers, but not halal enough through the slaughter method to satisfy the demands of all their Muslim clientele. Why do they bother getting their meat ritually-slaughtered at all? However strict muslims say that they do not accept a tape recorded rendition/tasmiyah & the 'blessed blade'. Whatever! These birds are being put through a halal slaughter - whether it produces halal or haram!
