[QUOTE="kds1980, post: 145970, member: 1178"] PATIALA: Yadavindra Public School, here known as YPS Patiala has asked its Amritdhari students to remove Kirpan or leave the school. On one hand Sikh students in foreign countries has been fighting for turban and other religious belief but in its home state the school named after Sikh Raja Maharaja Yadavindra Singh did not allow the Amritdhari students to keep its religious symbols. Manpreet Singh student of class IX and Akashdeep Singh of class VII- who have got admission here in this school last month- are baptize Sikhs and wearing the all five ‘Kakaar’ (Symbols) before getting the admission to this school. Manpreet’s father Gurcharan Singh is in Army and posted in J& K. He got transferred from Mumbai early this year. His native village is Kartarpur near Cheeka in Punjab on Punjab & Haryana interstate border. Akashdeep’s father Harjinder Singh is living in Sanghrehri near Sangrur. Akashdeep was studying in Akal Academy before he got admission here in YPS. Harjinder Singh, who was here at YPS, said here that he came here to meet school Principal Stanley Vinod Kumar and to get permission for the small size (2 inches) of Kirpan. He was carrying small size of Kirpan and shown to media outside the school. He said that Principal told him to get it welded so that the blade could not come out from the case. Gurbir Singh – Maternal Uncle- of Manpreet Singh has said that he was going to Amritsar and would submit memorandum to Akal Takhat Sahib regarding the discrimination by the school administration. When contacted, School Principal Stanley Vinod Kumar has said that other students have been complaining about the possessing of 6 inches Kirpan by both the students. “We just told them to have small size symbol of Kirpan and that too tied in thread and put on around the their neck as other students following”, said Stanley. He further added that they were not against to any religion and its beliefs. Our 100 students got certificates from the local Sikh organization for reciting path of Japji Sahib yesterday. Our 25 students would participate in Sikh religious camp organised by GRD academy at Rajpur, Dehradun. Stanley further added that the family of Manpreet plying tactics to avoid the hostel and to continue studies on Day scholar basis. They have submitted the affidavit before getting admission that they would not opt for Day scholar and would continue in Hostel in any circumstances, added Stanley. Meanwhile the president of SAD-Patiala unit Indermohan Singh Bajaj and SGPC member Paramjeet Kaur said here today that with the recent decision of School administration the Pro Sikh face of PCC president Capt. Amarinder Singh has been uncovered. [b]PCC chief Capt. Amarinder Singh is the Patron of the school while his mother Rajmata Mohinder Kaur is Chairperson of the school.
