Subject: Why I Consider Myself a Conservative/Republican... Why will I be voting for Bush? For the last year, I have been an avid follower of politics. To this day, I can't determine if Kerry is a phony political opportunist or whether he actually has meaningful personal convictions. I can sometimes decipher what he claims to stand for on a given day, but I am not sure at all that even his supporters are going on anything more than a desperate blind faith. Consequently, I am not satisfied that Kerry, who swung to the anti-war left in order to (grab) the Democratic nomination from Howard Dean, can now be believed when he salutes and claims to be a committed anti-terrorist warrior. If he had spoken as tough as he is now about killing terrorists, back in the days of the Democratic primaries, he would have gone the way of Lieberman, and we'd be choosing between Bush and Dean right now. The world changed on Sept. 11th 2001, but the anti-war left is still living in the world of Sept. 10. In their utopian world view, we can eliminate religiously motivated, apocalyptic terrorism by changing our foreign policy, consuming less of the world's resources, increasing foreign aid, ratifying the Kyoto Protocols, joining the International Criminal Court, and relinquishing our national sovereignty to the United Nations. But back here in the real world, we will defeat such fascist terrorism only by eliminating their lives, their supporters and their sources of financing, and spreading the ideas of economic freedom, consensual government, and the empowerment of women on a global scale. Free nations do not produce international terrorists. Those are the keys to world peace, as opposed to a 'blame America' mentality or a pacifistic avoidance of confrontation with brutal dictators in order to 'maintain peace and stability.' Peace is more than the absence of war, it is the presence of freedom and justice.' I get asked the same question over and over again. "How can you, a 'miniority', be Republican?" And then some go on to even claim I am just brain washed by the "right-wing media" aka ONLY Fox News. To me, the reason is obvious. My morality differs from many others and usually aligns with the popular opinion held by conservatives. I am against abortion. I am against Gay Marriage, and I believe in traditional family values. I consider myself religious. I am against socialist programs, and against the use of welfare, and affirmative action. For what has the Democratic Party ever done for me, the "miniority", or better yet, for "my people" ? I am not a recipient of welfare, and assume affirmative action did not help me in any possible way. Even if I was using those options, I would most likely still remain against them. What have Democrats done more for me or "my people" that Republicans have not? And why would this make me change my stance on morality since it differs greatly from most liberals and Democrats. Do they really help me THAT much, that I am willing to give up my morals for this much-needed help? Am I the one that is brain-washed by the "right-wing" media? Or are you all just sucked in by the "Democrats help minorities/foreigners" statements that are overly exaggerated? I agree, with why some people choose to vote Democrat, their morals may differ from mine. I do not bash them, nor do I say, "Hey! but your supposed to be a religious guy and religion says not to do this and that, I can't believe your voting Democrat!" Traces of me being conservative have always shown, I do not realize why it's such a shock. -S|kH
