There is something unique about gurbani in that, it is multi-layered and complex. Unlike other religions which promises to fulfill whatever you wish to accomplish through ardas or by reading holy book, gurmat is not in that rat race to give false promises. It is because of our mindset that we interpret gurbani for fulfilling our worldly needs. Gurbani is purely for our spiritual upliftment. Now coming to compassion (daya), neither christians nor we, wouldn't been killing innocent animals if compassion in that sense would have been the attribute of God and Guru Nanak would not have uttered, 'ਆਪੈ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਗਲੁ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥ ਏਤੀ ਮਾਰ ਪਈ ਕਰਲਾਣੇ ਤੈਂ ਕੀ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ Is God incomplete or sleeping that he needs to be reminded? Moreover, the one who does not remember his duties cannot be called God. Thus this pankti, 'Dhaul dharam daya (compassion) ka putu and 'ਆਪੈ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਕਰਤਾ ਜਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਗਲੁ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥ ਏਤੀ ਮਾਰ ਪਈ ਕਰਲਾਣੇ ਤੈਂ ਕੀ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ There are two types of karta - one who controls the laws of nature and the other who vitiate my thought process and lead me astray. As per my understanding guru sahib in this pankti is referring to my manh as karta who has occupied and maligned my body with vikars and is leading me astray. Guru sahib is requesting manh you have done much damaged - now atleast have mercy and accept divine virtues. Similarly in 'ਧੌਲੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਦਇਆ ਕਾ ਪੂਤੁ ॥ It is same ' ਧੌਲੁ' which guru sahib had earlier referred in suniyee stanza 'ਸੁਣਿਐ ਧਰਤਿ ਧਵਲ ਆਕਾਸ ॥' By listening divine message, Bull of earth is now settled on its four feet, and 'ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਥਾਪਿ ਰਖਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਸੂਤਿ ॥ - 'ਜਿਨਿ' is with sihari means whosoever shows mercy on manh and imbibes divine traits comes to state of contentment. best regards
