The challenge for the healthcare system is to find the resources so that all Californians can get the timely and equal access to healthcare." </p><p> </p><p>Mahal received his medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi and did his internship in internal medicine at the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Stanford University Medical Center. </p><p> </p><p>He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and is on staff at Washington Hospital in Fremont. Mahal serves on the American Medical Association's Commission to End Health Disparities. He also is a board member of the India Community Centre in Milpitas and the Sikh Foundation in Palo Alto. Mahal's wife, Surjit K. Mahal, is a family physician with a practice in Fremont.</p></blockquote><p></p>
