Gurfateh Khalsa Ji!!! For past some time I was reading about the activities of Rastriye Sikh Sangat , an RSS branch. They are trying to link Sikh guru to Hindu God-Goddess. By either, taking examples of what happened in Sikh gurudwara under the control of Mahant or Udassies. They guys pick gurbani from here and there, and sight examples to claim that Sikh Guru's actually workshipped God and Goddess. I know this kind of propaganda is ON, since pre-independence era. An the worrisome part is that many *confused* sikh's in India have started believing these stories in part. Its a gradual change but over years (with kind of media presence they have )these guys can easily convince many. Already we see sikhs visiting "Maat de Jagraate", vaisno devi, visiting dargarh's or mazars, visiting pandit ji to find "dukh nivaaran" receipe, sikhs too throng on "Ganesh Chaturathi", you can see them doing "pitr dann" on "Ganga Ghat". And this isn't just a rural phenomenon but is seen in most urban families as well. When you all this happens then where is the difference? Reasons could be many. However the core reason could be a hugh lagging on our part to educate our youth (may be to elders as well but only upto some extent) on importantance and beauties of Sikhi way of living. Many have shaved there faces then wear nice "colored" turban, drink to "full bliss", then the whole family visit some baba's dera to claim that they are real sikh. These people then form the current "fanatic sikh" jamat. To them Shri Darbar Sahib looks like party office and "babe da dera" is real gurdwara. Eventually they don't feel the Guru anywhere. Somehow when I see what Harbhajan Yogi has done in west, I wish same can be done all across India. These people here who used to live life of full leisure, with wine and beer, finish packs and packs of cigrates, has now completely shed that lifestyle. Now without any doubt in there mind they follow guru's "hukam", live a real sikh's life, and live in complete "Chardi Kalan". So nobody can question them in US that they are Hindu's or something else. Its only we (the sikh's from India) that are usually questioned. The reason is because we behave no different that a average Hindu in India. Unless we really demonstrate what Guru Sahiban has given us, we can reach no where. I met people who still have questions like -why should I wear turban? -why amrit? (logic given is that Its a 300 yr old idea not fully valid today) -why not trim or shave and look smart? -what will happen if I recite bani? -why not drink/eat and enjoy life? -why to wake up 3 in the morning and waste your sleep? And then parents claim there sons/daughter doesn't listen to them on matters of sikhi. How would kids listen to them if they them self never practiced what they are preaching to young ones. Our gurdwara's spend more on furnishing an dmaking bigger gurdwara in competition, then on educating youngs on basic ethos. If by chance some baba establishes a school or hospital or rain basera then he becomes Sant. These issues may look small but they contribute to the bigger problem. In the end I feel that if our generation (and of course future ones) understand,adopt/live Sikh way of life in toto then RSS is no thing to challenge us in anyway. Once we demonstrate our true wisdoms ,not by posters or debates, but by living like a true sikh. Everybody will would love to join in. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Kee Fateh
