Clothes are gender free unisex...its the person INSIDE it thats a man or woman...LOL..

Some clothes/ things have a feminine gender even when men wear them. Punjabi which is derived from Sanskrit and many claim that Latin is also derived from Sanskrit also has the same things.

Some Examples.
Salwar Kameez= Both Feminine and also both worn by both sexes.
Kurta Pyjama= Both Masculine and worn by both.

Mez= Table- Masculine
Kursi= Chair - Feminine

One more interesting anecdote:

Phulka= Masculine
Roti= Feminine
And they both are one and the same.

Let me rephrase this... It was given to me, and at first I thought it was a women's kurti, but when I tried it on, its much longer than I thought, and rounded at the bottom, and also has buttons at the top so it kind of looks like a men's kurta like men would wear with kurta / pyjama. But then, the embroidery... I have never seen men wear something like it, so I still think it's more a ladies style...

I just don't know whethere to keep it and wear with jeans or give it as a gift??

As for the embroidery I am pretty sure it's northern... if not Kashmiri.

Looks to me like it's made for a woman. My wife has some that are similar. If you like it wear, if you don't it's a great gift.

If....say SRK (Shah rukh khan) is seen wearing it..then its a Mens Kurta....
IF on the otherhand..Madhuri Dikshit wears one ...its for the ladies...

I think it is a kurti for women, the types to be worn with a blouse-jacket like things (why the hell would a man wear such embroidery at all ). And this is certainly not Kashmiri embroidery IMO, Kashmiri embroidery generally uses bold colours and floral patterns are well-defined.

This is one of the readymade kurtis that are common these days, my Mom and relatives have some of these types, though I'm not an expert in female attire by any means.... ;-)

Ok I think I see the difference, guy ones usually have a normal collar, or chest pocket or the bottom of the sleeves has a button up (like a regular suit shirt would) The shape also looks more feminine... coming in at the waist. SO I guess it's ladies It's just I never saw one made so long. It's almost to my knees! Usually the readymade thin cotton kurtis are short ones.

I believe it is for ladies as for men it is in video below. Women rarely have closed circular neck kurtis but v-neck and men have circular closing neck line. It is a kurt1. See Assa Singh Mastana in the Kurta below,
