Huddersfield Sikh community leader Bakhshish Singh Bhullar dies by Andrew Hirst http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/huddersfield-sikh-community-leader-bakhshish-6557710 One of the founding members of Huddersfield’s Sikh community has died. Bakhshish Singh Bhullar, 88, came to England from India in 1952 and began his business career as a door-to-door salesman, selling groceries and live poultry. From this grew the first Bhullar Brothers grocery shop in Springwood. Mr Bhullar set up in business with his brothers Sohan and Mohan and these brothers then went on to develop the Bhullar Brothers chain. Bakhshish then opened one of the first Indian drapery shops in Huddersfield. He became the founder president of the Sikh Temple in 1963. Mr Bhullar’s funeral will take place tomorrow at 9.30am at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara temple at Prospect Street, Huddersfield, followed by cremation at 11.15am at Parkwood Crematorium, Park Road Elland.
