Good Morning Sir, The three farm laws were enacted, primarily, to bring reform in the farm practices. Every Government owes a duty to act like this. Government is the friend and well wisher of the farmers and not otherwise. All its acts are governed by this philosophy. The farm laws were conceived out of this notion. This was a welcome step that was long awaited. Granting MSP may be the pinnacle is the perception of the farmers. But it may be self inflicted penance and not the panacea in the long run. It may help them temporarily but may not be the only and lasting solution as observed by distinguished scholars and agricultural economists as well. Granting of MSP will have consequences and its not incredibly hard to arrive at the conclusion that the Government will be loaded with investing passionately in building up of the inventory of the farm produce. It may be a mammoth investment. In absence of any reliable data it would be difficult to zero down on this figure. However, a rough estimate is always possible. The amount will run into lacs of crores ranging from anywhere 5 to 20 Lacs crores. Its not a pea nut. The Government may take it up with determined stoicism. There is no other alternative. The farmers myopic vision will never enable them to look at these facts and figures holistically. However, farmers are Indians and should rise to the occasion to see the hesitation the Government has in granting MSP. Farmers are Indians only. They have equal stakes in suggesting the source of funds for their proposal. The royal imperiousness and possessing such an attitude by the farmers is only but childishly immature bordering wholesomely around selfishness. Is it not for the farmers to look into this aspect and cooperate with the Government ? Where is the money.? The Government will have to have recourse to this large chunk of funds by deferring of cancelling the social and development projects or the Government may levy additional Taxes for this purpose. The gain of the farmers will inflict a great loss to the entire society which would have been benefited by these social and developmental projects. It would be too parochial to say that farmers have gained. There are many other aspects that I wish to skip over so that the post doesn't become lengthy. However, its apt to state that the grant of MSP will make the farm produce expensive, be it wheat or be it the paddy-rice. In a way the entire society will be burdened with the inflation arising out of the price rise. The gain of the farmer is a loss of the society. The rest of Indians will finance the farmers. The gain of the farmers is not the result of the improvement of farm practices but it is the gain resulting from the inefficient farm practices. MSP is the reward of their inefficient farm methods that will be spread over the entire society. This is not an appropriate solution. Its the result to the nearsightedness of the farmers. But farmers are not prisoner of the conscience as these are acting, as it appears from the loud rants, like aliens and foreigners. The obscenities hurled at the PM could have been avoided. PM has evidenced a large heart by ignoring and forgiving the farmers and their idiosyncrasies and the accompanying smut. Can it be called as the 'Win' of the farmers.'? No, not at all. Its the grace of the ruling party that the obstinate and adamant farmers have been accommodated. It may not be forgotten that the majority of the farmers are from Punjab and Haryana who are not amenable to any reforms and are the major beneficiary of the MSP at present. They want to stick to wheat production, only conventional style of farming that has resulted in low water levels and high consumption of electricity per unit of production. All these want is that the inefficient methods of farming should be rewarded by the entire society. Why ? The entire nation knows these facts. I end up with the question. Is the grant of MSP the lasting solution.? or Is the grant of MSP the only solution ?
