On the 33rd day of the conflict, Israel initiated an operation targeting the Hamas tunnels within Gaza City. As reported by Reuters, the Israeli military has stated that many of Hamas' tunnels, command centers, and rocket launchers are situated in close proximity to schools, hospitals, and humanitarian institutions in northern Gaza. This includes the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, which is the largest hospital in the region. Hamas is estimated to have a fighting force of approximately 20,000 to 30,000 members, as reported by Israeli security sources. Rear Admiral Hagari mentioned that Israel's objective is to target Hamas field commanders in order to weaken Hamas' ability to launch counterattacks. With casualties in Gaza topping 10,000, according to Palestinian health officials, Israel has come under mounting diplomatic pressure for a humanitarian ceasefire. The widespread and systematic bombardment of housing and civilian infrastructure in Gaza amounts to a war crime and a crime against humanity, an independent United Nations expert said Wednesday. A month of Israeli attacks on targets within the Gaza Strip have destroyed or damaged 45 percent of all housing units in the Palestinian territory, Balakrishnan Rajagopal said, warning the destruction comes at a "tremendous cost to human life". "Carrying out hostilities with the knowledge that they will systematically destroy and damage civilian housing and infrastructure, rendering an entire city -- such as Gaza City -- uninhabitable for civilians is a war crime," he said. (via AFP) At least 10,569 Palestinians have been killed and 26,457 wounded in Israeli strikes since October 7, the Gaza health ministry said today. According to data cited by Reuters, the list of casualties includes 4,324 children. Israel continues targeting of residential areas across Gaza with 214 people killed in last 24 hours. In Israel, the death toll over the same period stands at more than 1,400 for the same period. Ground reports mention Israeli jets targeted a house in Nuseirat refugee camp with the health ministry saying 17 people were killed and many are still trapped under the rubble. Israeli forces struck a house in eastern Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killing four people. In Shajaiya, rescue workers managed to pull out the bodies of 15 Palestinians who were killed in an early morning Israeli air strike. In Jabalia refugee camp, at least 15 people were killed in a pre-dawn Israeli air strike. More than 1.4 million Palestinians are displaced either inside Gaza City or from the north of Gaza. over 40 members of UN Force team has been killed and similar number is of reporter against which Press organizations world over have shown a their anger. Death and destruction scene in Gaza The United States has asked the Israeli government to distinguish between Hamas terrorists and Palestinian civilians. "We have raised directly with the Israeli Government about the need to distinguish between Hamas terrorists and Palestinian civilians. This is something that the Secretary has raised directly on his travels. We even laid out that we believe that there are commitments that can be made additionally on dealing with protecting civilian life more effectively, and we're watching very closely to make sure that happens," said US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel. He added further, "We want conditions created that will allow for the entrance of additional humanitarian aid into Gaza. We want the conditions to be such that will allow potentially for additional hostages to be released by Hamas." Meanwhile, the Israeli Foreign Ministry published data and said that Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip have fired more than 9,500 rockets at Israeli territory since Hamas launched its multi-pronged attack on the Jewish state one month ago.
