Dear Khalsa Ji,
Today, I share with you all what I understand from the 1st Shalok of Sukhmani Sahib, which appears on the page 262 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
1. Awid gurey nmh ] aad gur-ay namah.
I bow in reverence to the Gurus who lived at the beginning of time (for we humans).
2. jugwid gurey nmh ] jugaad gur-ay namah.
I bow in reverence to the Gurus of different Yugas (Sat Yuga, Tereta Yuga, and Dwaper Yuga and early Kali Yuga)
3. siqgurey nmh ] satgur-ay namah.
I bow in reverence to the Gurus who had become one with ‘The Sat’
4. sRI gurdyvey nmh ]1] saree gurdayv-ay namah. ||1||
I bow in reverence to the Gurus who are divine.
My understanding:
When I study this Shalok, I find that Guru Sahib has given his expression to his reverence for the gurus who lived in very ancient times; Gurus who lived in different Yugas (ages); Gurus who have become one with ‘The Sat’ and also to all the Gurus who have become divine.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji had given Sikhi to humanity some 500 years back only. Most of the Gurus to whom Guru Sahib has bowed in reverence lived before the advent of Sikhi. These revered Gurus had not followed the path of Sikhi, yet Guru Sahib considers them worthy of his reverence - he bows to them. Why? It is clear there is some lesson for me to learn in it; mere repetition of the Shalok without knowing its intent is not enough.
As I pondered over this issue, it dawned on me that once any individual crosses the last threshold of spirituality and becomes divine, her or his mind merges with ‘The Sat’. There is only one ‘Sat’; all these Gurus has merged with this ‘One’ – ‘The Sat’. This way they all have become one. The path through which these humans had evolved into divinity gets erased for them once they have mentally merged with ‘The Sat’; all these Gurus are one with ‘The Sat’. Consequently, they are all worthy of our reverence the same way as Guru Sahib has stated in this Shalok.
This is my understanding.
Assimilation:
I need to train my mind.
When ever the name or thought of any divine person comes to my mind, it should become my natural frame of mind to entertain the thought of this Guru with deep sense of reverence from the depth of my heart and soul. My mind should become incapable to have any contemptuous thought about these divinities, no matter which path (religion) they have followed to mentally merge with ‘The Sat’.
Once I have incorporated this learning in my being, I will resonate with this Shalok and the assimilation then will become complete.
With this I conclude this post.
With love and respect for all.

Intersting word by word commentary and translation of Sukhmani Sahib- Shalok 1 is given at
Punjabi Book spiritual with translation on thought of meditation.
:confused:It is given:-To reach fruits of Spiritual Song of Sukhmani, it should be carried out in the full version which is as follows: - Ik_Onkaar. Sat_naam. kartaa_purakh. Nirbhau. Nirvair. Akaal. Moorat. Ajoone. Sai_bhang. Gur_prasaad. Ik_Onkaar is icon of sound of the serenity of the pure God . Echo of the serenity consist numerical and a constant of the language of Punjabi which is the indication that it is beyond the forms of the words and the sounds of the languages and the wisdom of the thought. Worship with respect to the echo of the serenity of pure God which is Guru since the beginning of the soul. Worship with respect to the echo of the serenity of pure God which is Guru since the beginning of the eras. Worship with respect to God which is the pure Guru .Worship with respect to respectable the Guru which is deity .
Do some noble soul explain it in more simple language?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The above meaning assigned is not as per the general meaning that we are used to. Whenever there is a divergence from the prevailing views it becomes essential to know as to why the deviation was necessitated.
I tend to incline with the general interpretation of God through Mool Mantra as is hinted by Bliss ji.
