ਸਲੋਕੁ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰ ਬਿਨਾਸੁ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ॥੧॥
Gi▫ān anjan gur ḏī▫ā agi▫ān anḏẖer binās. Har kirpā ṯe sanṯ bẖeti▫ā Nānak man pargās. ||1||
Creator gave the clarity powder of understanding, darkness of ignorance so destroyed. With creator’s blessing, met the pious learned and so enlightened the mind.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਸਰਬ ਭੂਤ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ॥ ਸਰਬ ਨੈਨ ਆਪਿ ਪੇਖਨਹਾਰਾ॥
Sarab bẖūṯ āp varṯārā. Sarab nain āp pekẖanhārā.
Carrying out in all living by self. Through all eyes, such one that so sees by self.

ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਤਨਾ॥ ਆਪਨ ਜਸੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੁਨਾ॥
Sagal samagrī jā kā ṯanā. Āpan jas āp hī sunā.
All of creation is body of such. Self praise listening by self.

ਆਵਨ ਜਾਨੁ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਬਨਾਇਆ॥ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਮਾਇਆ॥
Āvan jān ik kẖel banā▫i▫ā. Āgi▫ākārī kīnī mā▫i▫ā.
Birth and of death as though a game. Obedient so the worldly possessions.

ਸਭ ਕੈ ਮਧਿ ਅਲਿਪਤੋ ਰਹੈ॥ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਹੈ॥
Sabẖ kai maḏẖ alipaṯo rahai. Jo kicẖẖ kahṇā so āpe kahai.
In the midst of all, stays unattached. What wants to say, such says by self.

ਆਗਿਆ ਆਵੈ ਆਗਿਆ ਜਾਇ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਲਏ ਸਮਾਇ॥੬॥
Āgi▫ā āvai āgi▫ā jā▫e. Nānak jā bẖāvai ṯā la▫e samā▫e. ||6||
With permission born, with permission die. Nanak, if such so wishes, can absorb within.

Quote:

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji recognize that inner darkness is wiped with understanding. Such understanding is greatly facilitated through blessing of pious company.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 23, 6th sabad describe the permeation of the creator in all and activities of all. Carrying out in all, seeing through all, listening through all and as such in all and through all. The birth and death is just a game and worldly temptations so under control of such. In the midst of all being self detached and so such conveys.

Guru ji conclude that as permitted one comes and goes and if so wished by the creator, one gets assimilated.
