ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੇ ਠਾਕੁਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਣਹਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਰ ॥੧॥
Jī▫a janṯ ke ṯẖākurā āpe varṯanhār. Nānak eko pasri▫ā ḏūjā kah ḏaristār. ||1||
Master of the living and life, by self so interacting everywhere. Nanak, only one so present, where has second been seen!

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ॥ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਉਧਰਤ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ॥
Maṯ pūrī amriṯ jā kī ḏarisat. Ḏarsan pekẖaṯ uḏẖraṯ sarisat.
Complete knowledge, so pure the vision of such. In witness of such, creation finds salvation.

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਅਨੂਪ ॥ ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪ ॥
Cẖaran kamal jā ke anūp. Safal ḏarsan sunḏar har rūp.
So supple incomparable feet of such. Vision of such is fruitful, awesome creator’s persona.

ਧੰਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨੁ ॥
Ḏẖan sevā sevak parvān. Anṯarjāmī purakẖ parḏẖān.
Great is service and accepted is the humble servant. Knowing inside of all, such is the supreme being.

ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਤ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਤ ਕਾਲੁ ॥
Jis man basai so hoṯ nihāl. Ŧā kai nikat na āvaṯ kāl.
Minds that such resides in, so are enthralled. Death no longer gets near such.

ਅਮਰ ਭਏ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੮॥੨੨॥
Amar bẖa▫e amrā paḏ pā▫i▫ā. Sāḏẖsang Nānak har ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā. ||8||22||
Becoming forever, get the immortal status. Nanak, in company of the pious such creator is contemplated.

Quote:

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji recognize the one and only creator, master of all life and interacting with all.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 22, in this 8th and final sabad of the Astpadi, describe the virtues and impact on realizing the creator. Creator of complete knowledge, one with welcoming and gentle demeanor and as in supple feet, knowing of all. In understanding and realization of such a creator is found salvation, vision fulfilling, mind is enthralled and time limitations become redundant.

Guru ji conclude that as one contemplates in the company of the pious, immortality takes hold.
