ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ Salok. Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੇ ਠਾਕੁਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਣਹਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਰ ॥੧॥ Jī▫a janṯ ke ṯẖākurā āpe varṯanhār. Nānak eko pasri▫ā ḏūjā kah ḏaristār. ||1|| Master of the living and life, by self so interacting everywhere. Nanak, only one so present, where has second been seen! ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥ Asatpaḏī. Eight stanzas hymn ਹਲਤੁ ਪਲਤੁ ਦੁਇ ਲੇਹੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ Halaṯ palaṯ ḏu▫e leho savār. Rām nām anṯar ur ḏẖār. Improve both here and here after. Embed creator’s understanding in the heart. ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਦੀਖਿਆ ॥ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਪਰੀਖਿਆ ॥ Pūre gur kī pūrī ḏīkẖi▫ā. Jis man basai ṯis sācẖ parīkẖi▫ā. Complete teaching of the complete creator. Mind that such dwells in, one so realizes the truth. ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਦੂਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥ Man ṯan nām japahu liv lā▫e. Ḏūkẖ ḏaraḏ man ṯe bẖa▫o jā▫e. Mind and body contemplate on creator’s understanding with concentration. Sickness, pain and fear in mind depart. ਸਚੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ॥ ਦਰਗਹ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਖੇਪ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥ Sacẖ vāpār karahu vāpārī. Ḏargėh nibhai kẖep ṯumārī. True trade, do so the trader. Such trade will find value in the creator’s abode.
ਏਕਾ ਟੇਕ ਰਖਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੬॥ Ėkā tek rakẖahu man māhi. Nānak bahur na āvahi jāhi. ||6|| Lean on one in your mind. Nanak, birth and death won’t come again.
Quote: ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji recognize the one and only creator, master of all life and interacting with all.
Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 22, 6th sabad emphasize the essence of keeping one creator in the mind and the heart. So this improves life for ever, the truth is discovered, much that ails dissipates, such is the true of all trades and the trading to pursue .
Guru ji conclude that as one creator is embellished in the mind, the coming and going in life is resolved. | Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.
