ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ Salok. Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੇ ਠਾਕੁਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਣਹਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਰ ॥੧॥ Jī▫a janṯ ke ṯẖākurā āpe varṯanhār. Nānak eko pasri▫ā ḏūjā kah ḏaristār. ||1|| Master of the living and life, by self so interacting everywhere. Nanak, only one so present, where has second been seen! ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥ Asatpaḏī. Eight stanzas hymn ਜਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੈ ਨਾਇ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਨ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਇ ॥ Jan lāgā har ekai nā▫e. Ŧis kī ās na birthī jā▫e. Humble so attached to creator’s understanding. Expectations of such never go unfulfilled. ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ Sevak ka▫o sevā ban ā▫ī. Hukam būjẖ param paḏ pā▫ī. Humble servant so fit to serve humbly. Cognizance of creator’s intentions, highest status achieved. ਇਸ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ Is ṯe ūpar nahī bīcẖār. Jā kai man basi▫ā nirankār. No study comes higher than this. In mind’s of such resides the formless creator. ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਰਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ॥ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਪੈਰ ॥ Banḏẖan ṯor bẖa▫e nirvair. An▫ḏin pūjėh gur ke pair. Breaking the bonds, so become free of animosity. So dwell at creator’s feet everyday. ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਹਿ ਮੇਲੇ ॥੪॥ Ih lok sukẖī▫e parlok suhele. Nānak har parabẖ āpėh mele. ||4|| Such comfortable here and happy hereafter. Nanak, supreme creator has so enjoins with self. Quote: ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji recognize the one and only creator, master of all life and interacting with all.
Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 22, 4th sabad review the essence of naam/understanding. Through this much is understood, it is highest of endeavors, one in loving relationship with the creator dissipates animosity.
Guru ji conclude that this understanding makes us comfortable here and hereafter. This blessing so comes from the creator by self. | Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.
