Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

Sargun nirgun nirankār sunn samāḏẖī āp. Āpan kī▫ā nānkā āpe hī fir jāp. ||1||
By self the formless one is with worldly entanglements, without such and by self in voided contemplation. Nanak, so self created and such so seeks understanding.

Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

Abẖināsī sukẖ āpan āsan. Ŧah janam maran kaho kahā bināsan.
Eternal one sitting in own comfortable pose. Then say where was birth, death and destruction.

Jab pūran karṯā parabẖ so▫e. Ŧab jam kī ṯarās kahhu kis ho▫e.
When the complete architect was the creator by self. Then say who would have been afraid of demon of death.

Jab abigaṯ agocẖar parabẖ ekā. Ŧab cẖiṯar gupaṯ kis pūcẖẖaṯ lekẖā.
When creator was unapproachable and not visible. Then who questioned and wrote the chronology of deeds.

Jab nāth niranjan agocẖar agāḏẖe. Ŧab ka▫un cẖẖute ka▫un banḏẖan bāḏẖe.
When self without worldly attachments, unapproachable and without limits. Then who was freed and who was tied to entanglements.

Āpan āp āp hī acẖarjā. Nānak āpan rūp āp hī uparjā. ||3||
By self and of self is wondrous. Nanak such has created own form by self.
Quote:
ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state describe the duality of the creator with worldly and without worldly interactions. One that has created all but still seeks the understanding.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 21, 3rd sabad discuss the beginning and how we entangle in concepts beyond the creator. Examples that Guru ji cite like that the creator of self being in comfortable pose then what will be the concept of birth, death and destruction; creator created all then what could be the fear of so called demons; creator beyond visualization or approach then how could anyone write the chronology of creation; when by self creator beyond attachment and reproach then who proscribes the attachments and entanglements.

Guru ji conclude that the creator is just wondrous and beyond all worldly thoughts, definitions, stories and entanglements.
Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.

Sat Sri Akal.
