Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

Sargun nirgun nirankār sunn samāḏẖī āp. Āpan kī▫ā nānkā āpe hī fir jāp. ||1||
By self the formless one is with worldly entanglements, without such and by self in voided contemplation. Nanak, so self created and such so seeks understanding.

Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

Jab hovaṯ parabẖ keval ḏẖanī. Ŧab banḏẖ mukaṯ kaho kis ka▫o ganī.
When the creator was the only owner. Then who could have been free or caught in entanglements.

Jab ekėh har agam apār. Ŧab narak surag kaho ka▫un a▫uṯār.
When such was unapproachable and without ends. Then say who would have entered hell or heaven.

Jab nirgun parabẖ sahj subẖā▫e. Ŧab siv sakaṯ kahhu kiṯ ṯẖā▫e.
When the unattached creator in tranquil disposition. Then say where was life and the worldly attachments.

Jab āpėh āp apnī joṯ ḏẖarai. Ŧab kavan nidar kavan kaṯ darai.
When by self and in self was the light of self. Then who was fearless and who was fearful of who.

Āpan cẖaliṯ āp karnaihār. Nānak ṯẖākur agam apār. ||2||
Own plays and by self the performer. Nanak creator is unapproachable and without limits.
Quote:
ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state describe the duality of the creator with worldly and without worldly interactions. One that has created all but still seeks the understanding.

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 21, 2nd sabad state in relation to the origin of creation. When only one creator who was to be entangled with what; the creator so without limits and unbounded then what of the hell or heaven; When only one creator there, what of life and worldly attachments; when all by self then, what to be fearing and who to be fearless.

Guru ji conclude the creator so unlimited plays own plays and so performs in the same.
Please note all errors are mine and I stand corrected.

Sat Sri Akal.
