| |  | | | Sukhmani Sahib Astpadi 20 Sabad 6 / ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ੨੦ ਸਬਦ ੬
ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ Salok. Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi) ਫਿਰਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਇਆ ਪਰਿਆ ਤਉ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ Firaṯ firaṯ parabẖ ā▫i▫ā pari▫ā ṯa▫o sarnā▫e. Nānak kī parabẖ benṯī apnī bẖagṯī lā▫e. ||1|| Creator, (I) came from wandering and wandering, at your shelter so arrived. Nanak prays, to the creator, attach to contemplation of yourself. ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥ Asatpaḏī. Eight stanzas hymn ਉਪਜੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਉ ॥ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਆਉ ॥ Upjī parīṯ parem ras cẖā▫o. Man ṯan anṯar ihī su▫ā▫o. Loving attachment, taste of love has transpired. In body and mind only this craving.
ਨੇਤ੍ਰਹੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸਾਧ ਚਰਨ ਧੋਇ ॥ Neṯarahu pekẖ ḏaras sukẖ ho▫e. Man bigsai sāḏẖ cẖaran ḏẖo▫e. Seeing with eyes the visualization provides comfort. Mind blossoms washing feet of the pious. ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰੰਗੁ ॥ ਬਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਊ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੰਗੁ ॥ Bẖagaṯ janā kai man ṯan rang. Birlā ko▫ū pāvai sang. Pious seeker’s mind and body are so enthralled. Scarce few find company. ਏਕ ਬਸਤੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਰਿ ਮਇਆ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਲਇਆ ॥ Ėk basaṯ ḏījai kar ma▫i▫ā. Gur parsāḏ nām jap la▫i▫ā. Give one article in blessing. Creator’s blessing, so understanding of the creator could be sought. ਤਾ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੬॥ Ŧā kī upmā kahī na jā▫e. Nānak rahi▫ā sarab samā▫e. ||6|| Praise for such cannot be so spoken. Nanak, such is enshrined in all.
Quote: ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that wandering all over I come under creator’s cover. There is just one request that the creator may link me to contemplation of the creator.
Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 20, 6th sabad discuss a sense of excitement as one start to lovingly seek the creator. The eyes cherish and the mind so blossoms. Company of the pious is of great value, only but few are so fortunate. Only but one blessing Guru ji seek to be driven to seek understanding of the creator.
