| |  | | | Sukhmani Sahib Astpadi 19 Sabad 8 / ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ੧੯ ਸਬਦ ੮
ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ Salok. Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi) ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸਗਲੀ ਛਾਰੁ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਮਾਵਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ Sāth na cẖālai bin bẖajan bikẖi▫ā saglī cẖẖār. Har har nām kamāvanā Nānak ih ḏẖan sār. ||1|| Nothing goes with one except contemplation, all wealth turns to ashes. Creator, creator’s understanding is the only wealth worthy of making. ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥ Asatpaḏī. Eight stanzas hymn ਏਕੋ ਜਪਿ ਏਕੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥ ਏਕੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਮਨ ਆਹਿ ॥ Ėko jap eko sālāhi. Ėk simar eko man āhi. Contemplate only one and praise only one. Understand only one and yearn for only one in mind. ਏਕਸ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ਅਨੰਤ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਜਾਪਿ ਏਕ ਭਗਵੰਤ ॥ Ėkas ke gun gā▫o ananṯ. Man ṯan jāp ek bẖagvanṯ. Sing virtues of one endlessly. Mind, body contemplate only upon one creator. ਏਕੋ ਏਕੁ ਏਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ॥ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥ Ėko ek ek har āp. Pūran pūr rahi▫o parabẖ bi▫āp. One and only one, by self only one creator. Fulfilling completely and present in all so creator. ਅਨਿਕ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ਏਕ ਤੇ ਭਏ ॥ ਏਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਿ ਪਰਾਛਤ ਗਏ ॥ Anik bisthār ek ṯe bẖa▫e. Ėk arāḏẖ parācẖẖaṯ ga▫e. Many constellations came from one. Contemplating on only one ill deeds dissipate.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੮॥੧੯॥ Man ṯan anṯar ek parabẖ rāṯā. Gur parsāḏ Nānak ik jāṯā. ||8||19|| Mind and body imbued with only one creator. With creator’s blessing, Nanak recognizes only one. Quote: ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that all becomes ashes and the only effort that sustains is contemplation of the creator. Also only wealth worth making is creator’s understanding.
Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 19, 8th and final sabad state the one creator to contemplate upon, to understand, praise and sing virtues of. The one creator everywhere and in all, remedying our shortcomings and ill deeds, so creator of many constellations
