ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi)

ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਖੁ ਉਧਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥
Saṯ purakẖ jin jāni▫ā saṯgur ṯis kā nā▫o. Ŧis kai sang sikẖ uḏẖrai Nānak har gun gā▫o. ||1||
Such who recognized the eternal omni-present one, name of such is the eternal creator. Nanak, in company of those, a learner is saved from ill deeds, so do sing virtues of the creator.

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥
Asatpaḏī.
Eight stanzas hymn

ਇਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਅਮਰੁ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥
Ih har ras pāvai jan ko▫e. Amriṯ pīvai amar so ho▫e.
Such creator’s essence of understanding only received by few people. Drinking so pure, such is immortalized.

ਉਸੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਦੇ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਗੁਨਤਾਸ ॥
Us purakẖ kā nāhī kaḏe binās. Jā kai man pargate gunṯās.
Such person is never destroyed. In whose mind shine the virtues of so.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਇ ॥ ਸਚੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਦੇਇ ॥
Āṯẖ pahar har kā nām le▫e. Sacẖ upḏes sevak ka▫o ḏe▫e.
Twenty four hours reflect on creator’s understanding. Such true teaching is given to the humble servant.

ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਲੇਪੁ ॥ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ॥
Moh mā▫i▫ā kai sang na lep. Man mėh rākẖai har har ek.
Is not attached to worldly possessions. Preserves of creator, one creator’s virtues in mind.

ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਪਰਗਾਸੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਖ ਤਹ ਤੇ ਨਾਸੇ ॥੬॥
Anḏẖkār ḏīpak pargāse. Nānak bẖaram moh ḏukẖ ṯah ṯe nāse. ||6||
Darkness enlightened by lamp. Nanak, misconceptions, attachment and pain leave such.

Quote:

ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that those who recognize the true one, will know it to be the eternal creator. Company of such people saves one from ills and so sing the virtues of the creator .

Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 18, 6th sabad describe the positive impact of keeping, recognizing praises and virtues of the creator in the heart. This so ever presence living while recognizing the creator removes worldly fears, one receives blessings of understanding, gets the ability to recognize the creator twenty four hours, the worldly possessions do not detract.

Guru ji conclude an enlightenment that comes about and the darkness of misconceptions, attachment and pain dissipates in such a living.
