| |  | | | Sukhmani Sahib Astpadi 16 Sabad 1 / ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ੧੬ ਸਬਦ ੧
ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ Salok. Salok (Core theme of eight sabads/hymns in the Astpadi) ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖ ਨ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਿੰਨ ॥ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥੧॥ Rūp na rekẖ na rang kicẖẖ ṯarihu guṇ ṯe parabẖ bẖinn. Ŧisėh bujẖā▫e nānkā jis hovai suparsan. ||1|| Creator is devoid of three in form, shape and color. Nanak only such are provided understanding, whom such is pleased with. ਅਸਟਪਦੀ॥ Asatpaḏī. Eight stanzas hymn ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੁ ॥ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਤੂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥ Abẖināsī parabẖ man mėh rākẖ. Mānukẖ kī ṯū parīṯ ṯi▫āg. Keep the indestructible creator in mind. Discard the people attachment. ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਰੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥ Ŧis ṯe parai nāhī kicẖẖ ko▫e. Sarab niranṯar eko so▫e. There is nothing external and beyond. In all only one creator permeates. ਆਪੇ ਬੀਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਨਾ ॥ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ਗਹੀਰੁ ਸੁਜਾਨਾ ॥ Āpe bīnā āpe ḏānā. Gahir gambẖīr gahīr sujānā. Self such sees and so by self such understands. Deep intense intellect and all knowledgeable. ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਬਖਸੰਦ ॥ Pārbarahm parmesur gobinḏ. Kirpā niḏẖān ḏa▫i▫āl bakẖsanḏ. Supreme creator, the greatest lord, the provider of all. Treasure of mercy, benevolent and forgiving. ਸਾਧ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੀ ਚਰਨੀ ਪਾਉ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਅਨਰਾਉ ॥੧॥ Sāḏẖ ṯere kī cẖarnī pā▫o. Nānak kai man ih anrā▫o. ||1|| Fall to the feet of you learned one. Nanak has only this longing in mind. Quote: ESSENCE: In the salok, Guru ji state that the creator has no form, shape or color and is understood by those so happily blessed.
Guru Arjan Dev ji in Astpadi 16, 1st sabad emphasize the need for loving relationship with the creator. Keep such in mind versus people, nothing is beyond and permeates all, creator of seeing, understanding and knowing, supreme merciful and benevolent.
