ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ॥ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਥ ॥੧॥
Ḏīn ḏaraḏ ḏukẖ bẖanjnā gẖat gẖat nāth anāth. Saraṇ ṯumĥārī ā▫i▫o Nānak ke parabẖ sāth. ||1||
The saviour from misery and hurt of the poor, the helper of the forlorn. I am at your door creator, holding the coattails of Guru Nanak.
ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥
Eight stanzas hymn.
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਬਰਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥
Bẖagaṯ janā kī barṯan nām. Sanṯ janā kai man bisrām.
Creator’s understanding is an ever useful utensil for the contemplator. This is always resident in the minds of the pious learned.

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਓਟ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਜਨ ਕੋਟਿ ॥
Har kā nām ḏās kī ot. Har kai nām uḏẖre jan kot.
Creator’s understanding is the support for the humble follower. Millions have been salvaged through understanding of the creator.
ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਰਤ ਸੰਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਸਾਧ ਕਮਾਤਿ ॥
Har jas karaṯ sanṯ ḏin rāṯ. Har har a▫ukẖaḏẖ sāḏẖ kamāṯ.
The pious reflect upon virtues of the creator day and night. The pious collect and treat understanding of the creator as an ointment.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਜਨ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨ ॥
Har jan kai har nām niḏẖān. Pārbarahm jan kīno ḏān.
For the humble followers of the creator, creator’s understanding is a treasure. The supreme creator so bestows such upon the humble.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਏਕੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਬਿਰਤਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੈ ॥੫॥
Man ṯan rang raṯe rang ekai. Nānak jan kai biraṯ bibekai. ||5||
The body and mind of the humble are colored in the understanding of the creator. Guru Nanak, the pious develop acumen to differentiate good and bad.
