I don't think this is a good idea. If your mother is like my mother was it will only make her harden her view and then possibly take other privileges away.
It can be very hard to be a parent of a teenager. You are on the cusp of adulthood and to every parent the fear of finding you turn into a stranger (always in their eyes) is very real. She has no idea what thinking you have done that has brought you to the point where you are at this moment. It is mystifying. Whereas for you it is very clear. My suggestion -- take it or leave it -- is to start having discussions about religion with her. And why not offer some things about Sikhism for her to read -- some ProjectNaad material -- some of the easier Gurbani. Little bits of talk at a time. She has to be an intelligent person or you would not be her son. Ask her to go with you to Gurdwara. Go with friends. Confrontations never work. |

| | | | | Re: MOM, let me go to GURDWARA Dear Sherab ji,
There should be some reason to this kind of reaction of a mother. Mother is supposed to be a well wisher and a guide.I am sure one should also look into as to why this attitude has been adopted by the Lady. No sikh lady will ask her kids to not to visit Gurudwara unless there is some reasons for it. I think this is a family problem. In any case the girl should not speak so vociferously against the mother at the forums. |

I sense that Sherbas mom isnīt a sikh at all.
If thatīs the case and his mom is just a bit like my parents I can imagine what her problem might be... She might think her son is either going crazy or caught by an evil sect.
In this case I think aad jiīs advice is most resonable. |

| | | | | Re: MOM, let me go to GURDWARA It's good to have viewpoints from all directions. Projectnaad material is definitely a good beginning. So in a case like Sherab's it would be better to find the answers to 'her questions' rather than feeding her with too much information. Answers are all there but she (his mom) should be open to dialogue about Sikhism. The first point of discuusion should be: Sikhism is a religion and not a cult. |

| | | | | Re: MOM, let me go to GURDWARA You dont know have to go the gurudwara. Your heart is the temple of God! Therefore, the gurudwara is inside you. Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=20696
There are other places you could do seva. Maybe do some seva for you mom, then she might change her mind. |
