HOW YOUR CAMPUS CAN RESPOND TO OAK CREEK
(from Groundswell website)
You can combat hate and build community through the power of storytelling and service. Organize a film screening and dialogue on your campus, and follow up with a year-long service project with your local Sikh community. Together with our partners at the White House, Interfaith Youth Core, the Sikh Coalition and SALDEF, we believe the tragedy in Oak Creek can catalyze bold new engagement. Here's how:

1. Host a Film Screening and Dialogue on Your Campus
Storytelling is the most powerful way to generate empathy, dialogue and introspection. Host one of these films on your campus. Organize a panel of Sikh American students on your campus or invite a speaker to lead a Q&A with the audience after the screening. Pass out brochures on the Sikh faith to your audience. (You can request these brochures, in any quantity and free of charge here: education@sikhcoalition.org).

It might be irrelevant now. But an idea for film would be to research the questions asked by our peers at work and school. Make a comprehensive list and choose the 20 most common questions. Then make a movie where a non-Sikh persons ask a Sikh, he opens a conversation, the Sikh shows warmth and welcome in answering the question. That way it could pave way for better interaction between people.

PS: It could be something like Guruka Singh's video interviews on Sikhnet, but showing characters in outside, real time setting than just in a studio.

Yes! This is an awesome idea! I think it would be a great project for SPNers to work on together. Does SPN have a Youtube account? It would be great to have one for things like this.

It is definitely not irrelevant. Intolerance is usually based on lack of knowledge. And from where I stand in the west, there is way too much intolerance. It is harmful to the victims of their intolerance and to the society as a whole.
