Gurfateh

Since I have embraced Sikhism, I have to confess that my life has become a lot better. I feel more healthy, my mind feels more healthy, I am more at peace. I do not put this down to any cosmic or magical effect, purely the type of seeds that I am planting, in line with Sikhi.

The more I live in Hukam, the more easy my life gets, and it is so tempting to view this ease as a gift from God, tempting to expect it, as a reward, which is a path I refuse to go down.To do good, to live Hukam should be its own reward, and the results from such, are merely the results of truthful living.

However, my father today, advised me to thank God for the good things that happen to me, as always, I argued the point. Surely to 'thank God' is merely rhetoric, just words, or thoughts. If you work on the basis that Creator is everywhere and in everything, surely the way to 'thank God' is to actually get off your *** and do something, anything, that puts something back into the system.

I would be interested to know how others feel about 'good things happening' , and also about the way to thank God for these good things

thank you

Harry veer isn't there a saying as,

"Good grows by sharing and misery diminishes through sharing"

So you are already sharing the good by interactions that come from your experiences of goodness. It does not have to be ulterior and distinct. In even a smallest of ways the good you share/interact may flourish handsomely in someone else. That is life.

By the way don't argue with your dad! Just say Hanji/"yes sir" .... "papa ji"/"baapu ji"/"daddy ji"/"dear father" lol

I think one of my personal philosophies is:

If something bad has happened to you, make sure you don't do it to someone else.

And like Harry ji said, better than saying Thank God for any good happened to you, maybe say Thank God and do similar goodness to someone else.

That someone else being a total stranger helps :)

Just thank God that You wake up every morning and have another chance to better yourself and be of help to someone.

There is nothing worse than promising to save a friend tomorrow and then you never wake up! Do the saving Today.....

Why do we feel like you have to thank because good things seem to be happening??
Are they really good things ? or just good for us and not for any other ?
We have to analyse if it is what it is. To keep a an equal mind and to accept good things and bad things on the same level is what we really should do. To try and stay out and away from ALL Dualities should be the the REAL THANKING!!!!!

Luckyji,

I am not so sure about this, allow me to explain.

When one lives in Hukam, then truly tera Bhana Meeta Laage, however, when one does not live in Hukam, this does not apply, as it is not Creators will, it is your own will. When one is living in Hukam, and good things happen, I suppose one is grateful to Creator for creating a system whereby good results can follow good seeds. I do not, for one minute, think Creator is watching and taking notes, Creator has simply put a system in place that works independantly of 'it'. Thus, kick a dog, Creator does not tell the dog to bite you back, that is already ingrained in the dog.

I do not wish to be dead my brother, to be dead to happiness and pleasure, I cite for my example the love of the tenth master for the hunt. Clearly he enjoyed hunting, poetry, riding, falconry, so to enjoy is not a bad thing, but to be sad or feel your spirits low because you cannot do the things you enjoy, yes, that is not right, but when the sun is shining, why not make hay, why not laugh, belly laughs, why not embrace the happiness, in fact go one stop further, embrace the down times with equal chardi kala.

my view only

p.s. difference between good and bad

when you wake up in the morning, and your wife is looking at you with a certain look, that is a good thing :), when you wake up and she is scowling and complaining about not putting the rubbish out, that is a bad thing!

if you cannot appreciate that, you may be better off on a mountain top icecreammunda

The idea is to move away from the subconscious that draws fine lines of how you interpret good or bad things.
Be pleased with both reactions you get,ie.. the negative reaction of not putting out the rubbish.. You cannot be very pleased, but you can be thankful that you have had a reminder that will have some beneficial aspect to it.

The Guruji does not say that we do Not differentiate between good or bad, as then our behaviour could be on whatever scale!!
But we should try not to differentiate our actions or to be More Tolerant to good and bad news.
After all, when someone sends a negative signal or response to us,most of the times we respond negatively, either within us or we say something. This response or lack of tolerance only makes matters worse.
We know it always takes 2 to argue, the only way to prevent this is by one being more tolerant and not giving the common natural negative response.

Hmmmmmm I wonder what would happen if I did act very pleased at having to put the rubbish out rather than making a face..........I think it would certainly throw the wife.

In fact, next time she wakes up with an intimate look on her face, I am going to suggest putting the rubbish out! lol lol lol lol

I get what your saying, I will try it out tommorow, rubbish day!
