The Worship of Abraxas

Many of you may have Santana Albums, some of you may even have the Santana Album 'Abraxas'.Flip it over, read the back cover, you will find the following line

"We stood before it and began to freeze inside from the exertion. We questioned the painting, berated it, made love to it, prayed to it: We called it mother, called it ***** and slut, called it our beloved, called it Abraxas...."

The line is taken from the Herman Hesse book "Demian", however the quote which burns in me for eternity would be

"(The bird struggles out of the egg. The egg is the world. Whoever wants to be born, must destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas.)"

The book argues that to have a good God overseeing all the goodness in the world, is not enough, one needs a complete God, complete with all the duality that exists in the human heart, to this end, reading it again, reminded me of how similar to the Sikh way of life it actually is. Allow me to explain.

There once was a time, long long ago, when my daily routine consisted of the following.

4am, wake up, having been insomniac for longer than I can remember, I have woken up at 4am, in the absence of anything else to do, Porn seemed like a good way to kill a few hours. Whilst watching, there was always the chance to get a few ideas to turn into reality at some stage. The scenes, tended to stick in your head, valuable insight could be gained for any physical replay later that day

8am Breakfast, at a local cafe on the seafront, a nice artery blocking meal, which probably explains my first heart attack aged 35.

9am Back home to change into a nice suit, clean turban and hit the estate agents looking for wrecks to buy.

9-12 My job? corrupting anyone I came across, everyone seemed to have a price, a currency, a fetish, I catered for everyone, no price too high, no fetish too extreme

1pm Lunch, always the local spanish, more artery blocking food.

2pm Time for the casino, a few hours of mindless gaming, losing and winning were unimportant, but it sure made you feel alive

4pm. Drive round to check on all the builders building developments, some needed money, some needed a kick up the butt. One house was noted to have cracking all along 2 bricks up , it was filled with black silicone and made to look like a dampcourse, oh how we giggled. Other houses coming up to auction were given midnight makeovers so that they appeared heavily cracked, which ensured no one else would bid on them. Misinformation can be as useful as information.

6pm Come home, a bit more porn, maybe later, the real thing, followed by another restaurant meal, followed by home at 10pm

10pm. Time for the bottle of scotch, drink until pass out

Now the reason I have written this, is that the dedication to the God of duality, Abraxas, is evident throughout the day, if you flip the devotion to the self, to devotion to Creator, it is not that different from the SRM that applies to a Sikh way of life. Of course, these days, I look for chances to assist, rather than take, I try and purify, rather than corrupt, I spend my mornings contemplating Creator, and attempting to put into practice that contemplation, instead of oblivion, I seek clarity

It is interesting to note that those that would say they were atheist, with the conviction that the world remains a playground, show as much devotion to their non God, that a believer would show to God.

It has been said, that even an atheist needs a non God to believe in.

It seems to me that concentrating on the truth, living the truth, enjoying the truth, propagating the truth is no harder than doing the same with the false, People that say, oh well this is hard work, would not say the same if instead of having to give food to the needy, had to watch an hour of porn, or stuff themselves with tasty *** bits, it is as easy to be good as it is to be bad, In fact, anyone that excels at being bad, or living falsely, can equally excel at living truthfully.

That depends on whether an individual is or isn't in the rat race trying to keep up with the Jones es.

Not so brother, my point is anyone that has given their body and soul to Abraxas has already dealt with these other issues. I could not have cared less about such things, as long as I got my 'darshan'.

Hesse also said that there were only two ways to enlightenment, through the flesh, and through God. However, the sort of person he despised, were those that chose the middle ground. Never to taste the intense heat of the fleshpots, and never to bask in God, just the slightly warm middle path, the path of the bourgeois,

To sum up, intense living can be either good, or bad, but once you have a taste of that intensity, pointing your goal to God, as opposed to the flesh, is not that hard. You already have the devotion....
