In September 2011, Sikhs from all over Britain gathered in Parliament Square to protest. The focus of their concern was the turban. Since the terrorist attacks of the 21st century Sikhs believe their turbans have singled them out for discrimination. In a case of mistaken identity the Sikhs claim they've been wrongly regarded as religious terrorists and subjected to increased airport security searches.

This documentary traces the history of the turban in the Sikh religion, from its roots in Moghul India, through the battlefields of Europe, to the fight for British Sikhs to wear it without fear. It reveals that the turban is a crucial symbol of the Sikh faith - one that Sikhs will even risk their lives for.

My father and brothers and I all watched it together. We were very impressed by the bravery of Sikhs in upholding their God-given right to religious liberty.

Re: The Story of the Turban - BBC Documentary

Most of what BBC has broadcast about us has been demeaning, inaccurate and/or disgusting to me. I am very happy that they have finally got it right in this documentary.'

I enjoyed it immensely.

I managed to watch it today.
Excellent.
But, why is it left for the Beeb and their ilk to produce such features? Are there no Sikhs with video production skills? Are there no budgetary resources available for such vital PR undertakings? Or has the Qaum not yet got past the "edifice complex" of sinking millions into "gaudy-waras" of questionable value to anyone or anything, other than the Haumai of their builders?
