ਕਿਸੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਤਜਿਓ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਇਹੁ ਭੇਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ॥
Kis kāraṇ garihu ṯaji▫o uḏāsī. Kis kāraṇ ih bẖekẖ nivāsī.
What was the reason to leave home and become a wanderer? What was the reason to take the persona of a wanderer?
ਕਿਸੁ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਥੁ ਲੰਘਾਵਹੁ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੧੭॥
Kis vakẖar ke ṯum vaṇjāre. Ki▫o kar sāth langẖāvahu pāre. ||17||
What merchandise you deal in? How will your group accompany you to salvation?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਭੇਖ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ kẖojaṯ bẖa▫e uḏāsī. Ḏarsan kai ṯā▫ī bẖekẖ nivāsī.
Became a wanderer in search of the creator compliant. Took the persona to so experience these.
ਸਾਚ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਹਮ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੧੮॥
Sācẖ vakẖar ke ham vaṇjāre. Nānak gurmukẖ uṯras pāre. ||18||
Truth merchandise I deal in. Nanak, follower of creator’s direction gets across.
ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਟਾਇਆ ॥ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Kiṯ biḏẖ purkẖā janam vatā▫i▫ā. Kāhe ka▫o ṯujẖ ih man lā▫i▫ā.
What technique you used to turn your living? Who does your mind focuses on?
ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਖਾਈ ॥ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Kiṯ biḏẖ āsā mansā kẖā▫ī. Kiṯ biḏẖ joṯ niranṯar pā▫ī.
What technique you used to eliminate wishes and desires? What technique you used to find the light of one essence?
ਬਿਨੁ ਦੰਤਾ ਕਿਉ ਖਾਈਐ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੧੯॥
Bin ḏanṯā ki▫o kẖā▫ī▫ai sār. Nānak sācẖā karahu bīcẖār. ||19||
Without the teeth how to eat iron? Nanak, so provide truthful thoughts.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਜਨਮੇ ਗਵਨੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥ ਅਨਹਤਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Saṯgur kai janme gavan mitā▫i▫ā. Anhaṯ rāṯe ih man lā▫i▫ā.
In so born to the true creator the wandering dissipated. In tune with one essence, the mind so gotten absorbed.
ਮਨਸਾ ਆਸਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Mansā āsā sabaḏ jalā▫ī. Gurmukẖ joṯ niranṯar pā▫ī.
Desires and wishes so burnt by the true words of understanding. In nearness to the creator, so found the light within.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਟੇ ਖਾਈਐ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰੇ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨੦॥
Ŧarai guṇ mete kẖā▫ī▫ai sār. Nānak ṯāre ṯāraṇhār. ||20||
Getting rid of the three aspects of worldly possessions, one so enabled to eat iron. Nanak the creator so salvaging, affords salvation.
ਆਦਿ ਕਉ ਕਵਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਕਥੀਅਲੇ ਸੁੰਨ ਕਹਾ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੋ ॥ ਗਿਆਨ ਕੀ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਕਵਨ ਕਥੀਅਲੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਕਵਨ ਨਿਵਾਸੋ ॥
Āḏ ka▫o kavan bīcẖār kathī▫ale sunn kahā gẖar vāso. Gi▫ān kī muḏrā kavan kathī▫ale gẖat gẖat kavan nivāso.
What thoughts about the beginning? What to say about the creator’s abode? What ear rings so depict the grand wisdom? Who so resides in each and every heart?
ਕਾਲ ਕਾ ਠੀਗਾ ਕਿਉ ਜਲਾਈਅਲੇ ਕਿਉ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥ ਸਹਜ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਕਾ ਆਸਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਿਉ ਛੇਦੇ ਬੈਰਾਈਐ ॥
Kāl kā ṯẖīgā ki▫o jalā▫ī▫ale ki▫o nirbẖa▫o gẖar jā▫ī▫ai. Sahj sanṯokẖ kā āsaṇ jāṇai ki▫o cẖẖeḏe bairā▫ī▫ai.
How to so eradicate the hurt of death? How to so enter the place of no fear? How so to adopt calm, collected composure and pierce the enemies?
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਵਾਸੋ ॥ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਿ ਰਚਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੋ ॥੨੧॥
Gur kai sabaḏ ha▫umai bikẖ mārai ṯā nij gẖar hovai vāso. Jin racẖ racẖi▫ā ṯis sabaḏ pacẖẖāṇai Nānak ṯā kā ḏāso. ||21||
Understanding of the creator and so eliminating egotism, by self so becomes resident within. One who so created the creation if such wisdom so understood, Nanak a humble servant to such.
ਕਹਾ ਤੇ ਆਵੈ ਕਹਾ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਵੈ ਕਹਾ ਇਹੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ ਏਸੁ ਸਬਦ ਕਉ ਜੋ ਅਰਥਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਈ ॥
Kahā ṯe āvai kahā ih jāvai kahā ih rahai samā▫ī. Ės sabaḏ ka▫o jo arthāvai ṯis gur ṯil na ṯamā▫ī.
Where to come from, where to go to, and where to be so kept so absorbed in? One who so provides discourse of such wisdom, such a teacher without a speck of greed.
ਕਿਉ ਤਤੈ ਅਵਿਗਤੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥
Ki▫o ṯaṯai avigaṯai pāvai gurmukẖ lagai pi▫āro. Āpe surṯā āpe karṯā kaho Nānak bīcẖāro.
How to so find the truth of body less? How to create love of so following the creator? By self listening and by self creating, Nanak so provide the thoughts.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਵੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਾਵੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਈ ॥੨੨॥
Hukme āvai hukme jāvai hukme rahai samā▫ī. Pūre gur ṯe sācẖ kamāvai gaṯ miṯ sabḏe pā▫ī. ||22||
In direction coming, by direction going and in direction staying so absorbed. Of the complete creator, acquiring the truth and in such wisdom so receive the loving results.
ਆਦਿ ਕਉ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਕਥੀਅਲੇ ਸੁੰਨ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਲੀਆ ॥ ਅਕਲਪਤ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀਅਲੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ॥
Āḏ ka▫o bismāḏ bīcẖār kathī▫ale sunn niranṯar vās lī▫ā. Akalpaṯ muḏrā gur gi▫ān bīcẖārī▫ale gẖat gẖat sācẖā sarab jī▫ā.
Of the beginning but to think and express wondrously, one creator in essence residing within self. The true ear rings so in the knowledge of the creator, such true residing in each and every heart.
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਅਵਿਗਤਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਤਤੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਲਹੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰ ਨ ਕਰਣੀ ਸੇਵੈ ਸਿਖੁ ਸੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੈ ॥
Gur bacẖnī avigaṯ samā▫ī▫ai ṯaṯ niranjan sahj lahai. Nānak ḏūjī kār na karṇī sevai sikẖ so kẖoj lahai.
In the creator be so absorbed through knowledge, so understand the secret of the supreme creator in quiet composure. Nanak, nothing else to do, but so lovingly carrying out a learner discovers.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਜੀਅ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ॥ ਆਪੁ ਮੇਟਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਈ ॥੨੩॥
Hukam bismāḏ hukam pacẖẖāṇai jī▫a jugaṯ sacẖ jāṇai so▫ī. Āp met nirālam hovai anṯar sācẖ jogī kahī▫ai so▫ī. ||23||
Wondrous the direction but recognizing such direction, one so discovers living and the true ways to it. Erasing conceit and becoming pure inside, so to be called a yogi.
ਅਵਿਗਤੋ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਉਪਜੇ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਸਰਗੁਣੁ ਥੀਆ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ਲੀਆ ॥
Avigaṯo nirmā▫il upje nirguṇ ṯe sarguṇ thī▫ā. Saṯgur parcẖai param paḏ pā▫ī▫ai sācẖai sabaḏ samā▫e lī▫ā.
Of formless develops of form, of no worldly attachments comes of worldly attachments. In living contemplation of the eternal true creator so to find supreme status, in the true words so absorbed.
ਏਕੇ ਕਉ ਸਚੁ ਏਕਾ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕੀਆ ॥ ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਥੀਆ ॥
Ėke ka▫o sacẖ ekā jāṇai ha▫umai ḏūjā ḏūr kī▫ā. So jogī gur sabaḏ pacẖẖāṇai anṯar kamal pargās thī▫ā.
Of one recognizing as one true, ego and doubts of any other than one creator so removed. Such is yogi that recognizes creator’s wisdom, so blossoming like lotus inside.
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਰਬ ਦਇਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ॥੨੪॥
Jīvaṯ marai ṯā sabẖ kicẖẖ sūjẖai anṯar jāṇai sarab ḏa▫i▫ā. Nānak ṯā ka▫o milai vadā▫ī āp pacẖẖāṇai sarab jī▫ā. ||24||
Of living but as though dead finds out everything, only holds compassion for all inside. Nanak such receives praise, as one sees self in all living.
ਸਾਚੌ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੂਚੇ ਏਕ ਮਇਆ ॥ ਝੂਠੇ ਆਵਹਿ ਠਵਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
Sācẖou upjai sācẖ samāvai sācẖe sūcẖe ek ma▫i▫ā. Jẖūṯẖe āvahi ṯẖavar na pāvahi ḏūjai āvā ga▫oṇ bẖa▫i▫ā.
Truthful born in truth and absorbed in truth, truthful and the true creator so become one. False arrive, don’t stick around and so in duality these stay stuck in the circle of regeneration.
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੈ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਇਆ ॥ ਏਕਾ ਬੇਦਨ ਦੂਜੈ ਬਿਆਪੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥
Āvā ga▫oṇ mitai gur sabḏī āpe parkẖai bakẖas la▫i▫ā. Ėkā beḏan ḏūjai bi▫āpī nām rasā▫iṇ vīsri▫ā.
The coming and going is erased in knowledge of the creator, such so tests and forgives by self. As forgetful of the one so disturbed in secondary while forgetting the source of the understanding.
ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰੇ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਪਰਹਰਿਆ ॥੨੫॥
So būjẖai jis āp bujẖā▫e gur kai sabaḏ so mukaṯ bẖa▫i▫ā. Nānak ṯāre ṯāraṇhārā ha▫umai ḏūjā parhari▫ā. ||25||
Such finds out the one so enabled to find, in understanding of the creator such experience salvation. Nanak salvation from the one so enabling salvation, for the one so eradicating egotism.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੈ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ॥ ਪਰ ਘਰੁ ਜੋਹੈ ਹਾਣੇ ਹਾਣਿ ॥
Manmukẖ bẖūlai jam kī kāṇ. Par gẖar johai hāṇe hāṇ.
One driven by haughty mind are lost and under the influence of death. One looking to other places, damaged and more damaged.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਵੈ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥ ਵੇਮਾਰਗਿ ਮੂਸੈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿ ਮਸਾਣਿ ॥
Manmukẖ bẖaram bẖavai bebāṇ. vemārag mūsai manṯar masāṇ.
One driven by haughty mind so wandering in jungle of doubt. One on the wrong path is cheated while singing hymns at cremation grounds.
ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਲਵੈ ਕੁਬਾਣਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਣਿ ॥੨੬॥
Sabaḏ na cẖīnai lavai kubāṇ. Nānak sācẖ raṯe sukẖ jāṇ. ||26||
Does not speak wisdom but utters ill words. Nanak one so imbued in the truth only knows true bliss.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਘੜੁ ਘੜਾਵੈ ॥
Gurmukẖ sācẖe kā bẖa▫o pāvai. Gurmukẖ baṇī agẖaṛ gẖaṛāvai.
One driven by creator’s wisdom only holds fear of the true one. One driven by creator’s wisdom chisels the unchiseled.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Gurmukẖ nirmal har guṇ gāvai. Gurmukẖ paviṯar param paḏ pāvai.
One driven by creator’s wisdom so pure sings of creator’s virtues. One driven by creator’s wisdom so achieves the pure and higher status.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨੭॥
Gurmukẖ rom rom har ḏẖi▫āvai. Nānak gurmukẖ sācẖ samāvai. ||27||
One driven by creator’s wisdom so contemplates with each and every little bit of one self. Nanak, one driven by creator’s wisdom so dissolves into the eternal true one.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ parcẖai beḏ bīcẖārī. Gurmukẖ parcẖai ṯarī▫ai ṯārī.
One driven by creator’s wisdom contemplates upon treatises and Vedas. One driven by creator’s wisdom so enshrined swims across.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਸੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਅੰਤਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ parcẖai so sabaḏ gi▫ānī. Gurmukẖ parcẖai anṯar biḏẖ jānī.
One driven by creator’s wisdom so enshrined, gets spiritual knowledge. One driven by creator’s wisdom so enshrined, Discovers the inner goings on.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੨੮॥
Gurmukẖ pā▫ī▫ai alakẖ apār. Nānak gurmukẖ mukaṯ ḏu▫ār. ||28||
One driven by creator’s wisdom so recognizes the infinite and form-less. Nanak, one driven by creator’s wisdom discovers the door to salvation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਸਪਰਵਾਰਿ ॥
Gurmukẖ akath kathai bīcẖār. Gurmukẖ nibhai saparvār.
One driven by creator’s wisdom so contemplates that cannot be described. One driven by creator’s wisdom does so while in family living.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਚਾਰਿ ॥
Gurmukẖ japī▫ai anṯar pi▫ār. Gurmukẖ pā▫ī▫ai sabaḏ acẖār.
One driven by creator’s wisdom so lovingly contemplates internally. One driven by creator’s wisdom achieves through knowledge good character.
ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣਾਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਲਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨੯॥
Sabaḏ bẖeḏ jāṇai jāṇā▫ī. Nānak ha▫umai jāl samā▫ī. ||29||
Pointedly finding knowledge such so helps others to understand. Nanak, such burning the ego becomes immersed.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਜੀ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਮਹਿ ਓਪਤਿ ਖਪਤਿ ਸੁ ਬਾਜੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ ḏẖarṯī sācẖai sājī. Ŧis mėh opaṯ kẖapaṯ so bājī.
The true one created the world for the one driven by creator’s wisdom. In that the creation and destruction is a game.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਪੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤਉ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
Gur kai sabaḏ rapai rang lā▫e. Sācẖ raṯa▫o paṯ si▫o gẖar jā▫e.
In creator’s wisdom so lovingly colored and imbued. One so imbued in truth goes to the abode respectfully.
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਉ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩੦॥
Sācẖ sabaḏ bin paṯ nahī pāvai. Nānak bin nāvai ki▫o sācẖ samāvai. ||30||
Without the true knowledge respect is not gained. Nanak without creator’s word how can be so absorbed in truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧੀ ਸਭਿ ਬੁਧੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਸਚ ਸੁਧੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ asat siḏẖī sabẖ buḏẖī. Gurmukẖ bẖavjal ṯarī▫ai sacẖ suḏẖī.
One driven by creator’s wisdom recognizes the eight miraculous powers and all knowledge. One driven by creator’s wisdom traverses terror through true knowledge.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਰ ਅਪਸਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਨਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
Gurmukẖ sar apsar biḏẖ jāṇai. Gurmukẖ parviraṯ narviraṯ pacẖẖāṇai.
One driven by creator’s wisdom discovers ways of good and bad times. One driven by creator’s wisdom recognizes what to adopt and what to discard.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਾਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩੧॥
Gurmukẖ ṯāre pār uṯāre. Nānak gurmukẖ sabaḏ nisṯāre. ||31||
One driven by creator’s wisdom helps traverse, so traversing to the other end. Nanak one driven by creator’s wisdom so helps in salvation through true knowledge.
ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Nāme rāṯe ha▫umai jā▫e. Nām raṯe sacẖ rahe samā▫e.
One colored in creator’s understanding, relinquishes egotism. One colored in creator’s understanding, stay absorbed in truthful.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
Nām raṯe jog jugaṯ bīcẖār. Nām raṯe pāvahi mokẖ ḏu▫ār.
One colored in creator’s understanding, contemplate upon ways to so find. One colored in creator’s understanding, discover the door to salvation.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩੨॥
Nām raṯe ṯaribẖavaṇ sojẖī ho▫e. Nānak nām raṯe saḏā sukẖ ho▫e. ||32||
One colored in creator’s understanding, get understanding of the three worlds. Nanak, one colored in creator’s understanding, always finds eternal comfort.

Kis vakẖar ke ṯum vaṇjāre. Ki▫o kar sāth langẖāvahu pāre. ||17||
What merchandise you deal in? How will your group accompany you to salvation?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਜਤ ਭਏ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ਭੇਖ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ kẖojaṯ bẖa▫e uḏāsī. Ḏarsan kai ṯā▫ī bẖekẖ nivāsī.
Became a wanderer in search of the creator compliant. Took the persona to so experience these.
ਸਾਚ ਵਖਰ ਕੇ ਹਮ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਤਰਸਿ ਪਾਰੇ ॥੧੮॥
Sācẖ vakẖar ke ham vaṇjāre. Nānak gurmukẖ uṯras pāre. ||18||
Truth merchandise I deal in. Nanak, follower of creator’s direction gets across.
ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਟਾਇਆ ॥ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Kiṯ biḏẖ purkẖā janam vatā▫i▫ā. Kāhe ka▫o ṯujẖ ih man lā▫i▫ā.
What technique you used to turn your living? Who does your mind focuses on?
ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਖਾਈ ॥ ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Kiṯ biḏẖ āsā mansā kẖā▫ī. Kiṯ biḏẖ joṯ niranṯar pā▫ī.
What technique you used to eliminate wishes and desires? What technique you used to find the light of one essence?
ਬਿਨੁ ਦੰਤਾ ਕਿਉ ਖਾਈਐ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੧੯॥
Bin ḏanṯā ki▫o kẖā▫ī▫ai sār. Nānak sācẖā karahu bīcẖār. ||19||
Without the teeth how to eat iron? Nanak, so provide truthful thoughts.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਜਨਮੇ ਗਵਨੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥ ਅਨਹਤਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
Saṯgur kai janme gavan mitā▫i▫ā. Anhaṯ rāṯe ih man lā▫i▫ā.
In so born to the true creator the wandering dissipated. In tune with one essence, the mind so gotten absorbed.
ਮਨਸਾ ਆਸਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Mansā āsā sabaḏ jalā▫ī. Gurmukẖ joṯ niranṯar pā▫ī.
Desires and wishes so burnt by the true words of understanding. In nearness to the creator, so found the light within.
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਟੇ ਖਾਈਐ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰੇ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨੦॥
Ŧarai guṇ mete kẖā▫ī▫ai sār. Nānak ṯāre ṯāraṇhār. ||20||
Getting rid of the three aspects of worldly possessions, one so enabled to eat iron. Nanak the creator so salvaging, affords salvation.
ਆਦਿ ਕਉ ਕਵਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਕਥੀਅਲੇ ਸੁੰਨ ਕਹਾ ਘਰ ਵਾਸੋ ॥ ਗਿਆਨ ਕੀ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਕਵਨ ਕਥੀਅਲੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਕਵਨ ਨਿਵਾਸੋ ॥
Āḏ ka▫o kavan bīcẖār kathī▫ale sunn kahā gẖar vāso. Gi▫ān kī muḏrā kavan kathī▫ale gẖat gẖat kavan nivāso.
What thoughts about the beginning? What to say about the creator’s abode? What ear rings so depict the grand wisdom? Who so resides in each and every heart?
ਕਾਲ ਕਾ ਠੀਗਾ ਕਿਉ ਜਲਾਈਅਲੇ ਕਿਉ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥ ਸਹਜ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਕਾ ਆਸਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਿਉ ਛੇਦੇ ਬੈਰਾਈਐ ॥
Kāl kā ṯẖīgā ki▫o jalā▫ī▫ale ki▫o nirbẖa▫o gẖar jā▫ī▫ai. Sahj sanṯokẖ kā āsaṇ jāṇai ki▫o cẖẖeḏe bairā▫ī▫ai.
How to so eradicate the hurt of death? How to so enter the place of no fear? How so to adopt calm, collected composure and pierce the enemies?
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਵਾਸੋ ॥ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਿ ਰਚਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੋ ॥੨੧॥
Gur kai sabaḏ ha▫umai bikẖ mārai ṯā nij gẖar hovai vāso. Jin racẖ racẖi▫ā ṯis sabaḏ pacẖẖāṇai Nānak ṯā kā ḏāso. ||21||
Understanding of the creator and so eliminating egotism, by self so becomes resident within. One who so created the creation if such wisdom so understood, Nanak a humble servant to such.
ਕਹਾ ਤੇ ਆਵੈ ਕਹਾ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਵੈ ਕਹਾ ਇਹੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ ਏਸੁ ਸਬਦ ਕਉ ਜੋ ਅਰਥਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਈ ॥
Kahā ṯe āvai kahā ih jāvai kahā ih rahai samā▫ī. Ės sabaḏ ka▫o jo arthāvai ṯis gur ṯil na ṯamā▫ī.
Where to come from, where to go to, and where to be so kept so absorbed in? One who so provides discourse of such wisdom, such a teacher without a speck of greed.
ਕਿਉ ਤਤੈ ਅਵਿਗਤੈ ਪਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥
Ki▫o ṯaṯai avigaṯai pāvai gurmukẖ lagai pi▫āro. Āpe surṯā āpe karṯā kaho Nānak bīcẖāro.
How to so find the truth of body less? How to create love of so following the creator? By self listening and by self creating, Nanak so provide the thoughts.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਵੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਾਵੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਈ ॥੨੨॥
Hukme āvai hukme jāvai hukme rahai samā▫ī. Pūre gur ṯe sācẖ kamāvai gaṯ miṯ sabḏe pā▫ī. ||22||
In direction coming, by direction going and in direction staying so absorbed. Of the complete creator, acquiring the truth and in such wisdom so receive the loving results.
ਆਦਿ ਕਉ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਕਥੀਅਲੇ ਸੁੰਨ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਲੀਆ ॥ ਅਕਲਪਤ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀਅਲੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ॥
Āḏ ka▫o bismāḏ bīcẖār kathī▫ale sunn niranṯar vās lī▫ā. Akalpaṯ muḏrā gur gi▫ān bīcẖārī▫ale gẖat gẖat sācẖā sarab jī▫ā.
Of the beginning but to think and express wondrously, one creator in essence residing within self. The true ear rings so in the knowledge of the creator, such true residing in each and every heart.
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਅਵਿਗਤਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ਤਤੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਲਹੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰ ਨ ਕਰਣੀ ਸੇਵੈ ਸਿਖੁ ਸੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਲਹੈ ॥
Gur bacẖnī avigaṯ samā▫ī▫ai ṯaṯ niranjan sahj lahai. Nānak ḏūjī kār na karṇī sevai sikẖ so kẖoj lahai.
In the creator be so absorbed through knowledge, so understand the secret of the supreme creator in quiet composure. Nanak, nothing else to do, but so lovingly carrying out a learner discovers.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਜੀਅ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ॥ ਆਪੁ ਮੇਟਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਈ ॥੨੩॥
Hukam bismāḏ hukam pacẖẖāṇai jī▫a jugaṯ sacẖ jāṇai so▫ī. Āp met nirālam hovai anṯar sācẖ jogī kahī▫ai so▫ī. ||23||
Wondrous the direction but recognizing such direction, one so discovers living and the true ways to it. Erasing conceit and becoming pure inside, so to be called a yogi.
ਅਵਿਗਤੋ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਉਪਜੇ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਸਰਗੁਣੁ ਥੀਆ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਚੈ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ਲੀਆ ॥
Avigaṯo nirmā▫il upje nirguṇ ṯe sarguṇ thī▫ā. Saṯgur parcẖai param paḏ pā▫ī▫ai sācẖai sabaḏ samā▫e lī▫ā.
Of formless develops of form, of no worldly attachments comes of worldly attachments. In living contemplation of the eternal true creator so to find supreme status, in the true words so absorbed.
ਏਕੇ ਕਉ ਸਚੁ ਏਕਾ ਜਾਣੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕੀਆ ॥ ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਥੀਆ ॥
Ėke ka▫o sacẖ ekā jāṇai ha▫umai ḏūjā ḏūr kī▫ā. So jogī gur sabaḏ pacẖẖāṇai anṯar kamal pargās thī▫ā.
Of one recognizing as one true, ego and doubts of any other than one creator so removed. Such is yogi that recognizes creator’s wisdom, so blossoming like lotus inside.
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਰਬ ਦਇਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਾਈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ॥੨੪॥
Jīvaṯ marai ṯā sabẖ kicẖẖ sūjẖai anṯar jāṇai sarab ḏa▫i▫ā. Nānak ṯā ka▫o milai vadā▫ī āp pacẖẖāṇai sarab jī▫ā. ||24||
Of living but as though dead finds out everything, only holds compassion for all inside. Nanak such receives praise, as one sees self in all living.
ਸਾਚੌ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੂਚੇ ਏਕ ਮਇਆ ॥ ਝੂਠੇ ਆਵਹਿ ਠਵਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
Sācẖou upjai sācẖ samāvai sācẖe sūcẖe ek ma▫i▫ā. Jẖūṯẖe āvahi ṯẖavar na pāvahi ḏūjai āvā ga▫oṇ bẖa▫i▫ā.
Truthful born in truth and absorbed in truth, truthful and the true creator so become one. False arrive, don’t stick around and so in duality these stay stuck in the circle of regeneration.
ਆਵਾ ਗਉਣੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੈ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਇਆ ॥ ਏਕਾ ਬੇਦਨ ਦੂਜੈ ਬਿਆਪੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥
Āvā ga▫oṇ mitai gur sabḏī āpe parkẖai bakẖas la▫i▫ā. Ėkā beḏan ḏūjai bi▫āpī nām rasā▫iṇ vīsri▫ā.
The coming and going is erased in knowledge of the creator, such so tests and forgives by self. As forgetful of the one so disturbed in secondary while forgetting the source of the understanding.
ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰੇ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਪਰਹਰਿਆ ॥੨੫॥
So būjẖai jis āp bujẖā▫e gur kai sabaḏ so mukaṯ bẖa▫i▫ā. Nānak ṯāre ṯāraṇhārā ha▫umai ḏūjā parhari▫ā. ||25||
Such finds out the one so enabled to find, in understanding of the creator such experience salvation. Nanak salvation from the one so enabling salvation, for the one so eradicating egotism.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੂਲੈ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ॥ ਪਰ ਘਰੁ ਜੋਹੈ ਹਾਣੇ ਹਾਣਿ ॥
Manmukẖ bẖūlai jam kī kāṇ. Par gẖar johai hāṇe hāṇ.
One driven by haughty mind are lost and under the influence of death. One looking to other places, damaged and more damaged.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਵੈ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥ ਵੇਮਾਰਗਿ ਮੂਸੈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਿ ਮਸਾਣਿ ॥
Manmukẖ bẖaram bẖavai bebāṇ. vemārag mūsai manṯar masāṇ.
One driven by haughty mind so wandering in jungle of doubt. One on the wrong path is cheated while singing hymns at cremation grounds.
ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਲਵੈ ਕੁਬਾਣਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਜਾਣਿ ॥੨੬॥
Sabaḏ na cẖīnai lavai kubāṇ. Nānak sācẖ raṯe sukẖ jāṇ. ||26||
Does not speak wisdom but utters ill words. Nanak one so imbued in the truth only knows true bliss.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਘੜੁ ਘੜਾਵੈ ॥
Gurmukẖ sācẖe kā bẖa▫o pāvai. Gurmukẖ baṇī agẖaṛ gẖaṛāvai.
One driven by creator’s wisdom only holds fear of the true one. One driven by creator’s wisdom chisels the unchiseled.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Gurmukẖ nirmal har guṇ gāvai. Gurmukẖ paviṯar param paḏ pāvai.
One driven by creator’s wisdom so pure sings of creator’s virtues. One driven by creator’s wisdom so achieves the pure and higher status.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨੭॥
Gurmukẖ rom rom har ḏẖi▫āvai. Nānak gurmukẖ sācẖ samāvai. ||27||
One driven by creator’s wisdom so contemplates with each and every little bit of one self. Nanak, one driven by creator’s wisdom so dissolves into the eternal true one.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ parcẖai beḏ bīcẖārī. Gurmukẖ parcẖai ṯarī▫ai ṯārī.
One driven by creator’s wisdom contemplates upon treatises and Vedas. One driven by creator’s wisdom so enshrined swims across.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਸੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਚੈ ਅੰਤਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ parcẖai so sabaḏ gi▫ānī. Gurmukẖ parcẖai anṯar biḏẖ jānī.
One driven by creator’s wisdom so enshrined, gets spiritual knowledge. One driven by creator’s wisdom so enshrined, Discovers the inner goings on.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੨੮॥
Gurmukẖ pā▫ī▫ai alakẖ apār. Nānak gurmukẖ mukaṯ ḏu▫ār. ||28||
One driven by creator’s wisdom so recognizes the infinite and form-less. Nanak, one driven by creator’s wisdom discovers the door to salvation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਸਪਰਵਾਰਿ ॥
Gurmukẖ akath kathai bīcẖār. Gurmukẖ nibhai saparvār.
One driven by creator’s wisdom so contemplates that cannot be described. One driven by creator’s wisdom does so while in family living.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਚਾਰਿ ॥
Gurmukẖ japī▫ai anṯar pi▫ār. Gurmukẖ pā▫ī▫ai sabaḏ acẖār.
One driven by creator’s wisdom so lovingly contemplates internally. One driven by creator’s wisdom achieves through knowledge good character.
ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਾਣਾਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਲਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨੯॥
Sabaḏ bẖeḏ jāṇai jāṇā▫ī. Nānak ha▫umai jāl samā▫ī. ||29||
Pointedly finding knowledge such so helps others to understand. Nanak, such burning the ego becomes immersed.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਜੀ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਮਹਿ ਓਪਤਿ ਖਪਤਿ ਸੁ ਬਾਜੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ ḏẖarṯī sācẖai sājī. Ŧis mėh opaṯ kẖapaṯ so bājī.
The true one created the world for the one driven by creator’s wisdom. In that the creation and destruction is a game.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਪੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤਉ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
Gur kai sabaḏ rapai rang lā▫e. Sācẖ raṯa▫o paṯ si▫o gẖar jā▫e.
In creator’s wisdom so lovingly colored and imbued. One so imbued in truth goes to the abode respectfully.
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਉ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩੦॥
Sācẖ sabaḏ bin paṯ nahī pāvai. Nānak bin nāvai ki▫o sācẖ samāvai. ||30||
Without the true knowledge respect is not gained. Nanak without creator’s word how can be so absorbed in truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧੀ ਸਭਿ ਬੁਧੀ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਸਚ ਸੁਧੀ ॥
Gurmukẖ asat siḏẖī sabẖ buḏẖī. Gurmukẖ bẖavjal ṯarī▫ai sacẖ suḏẖī.
One driven by creator’s wisdom recognizes the eight miraculous powers and all knowledge. One driven by creator’s wisdom traverses terror through true knowledge.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਰ ਅਪਸਰ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਨਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
Gurmukẖ sar apsar biḏẖ jāṇai. Gurmukẖ parviraṯ narviraṯ pacẖẖāṇai.
One driven by creator’s wisdom discovers ways of good and bad times. One driven by creator’s wisdom recognizes what to adopt and what to discard.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਾਰੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੇ ॥੩੧॥
Gurmukẖ ṯāre pār uṯāre. Nānak gurmukẖ sabaḏ nisṯāre. ||31||
One driven by creator’s wisdom helps traverse, so traversing to the other end. Nanak one driven by creator’s wisdom so helps in salvation through true knowledge.
ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
Nāme rāṯe ha▫umai jā▫e. Nām raṯe sacẖ rahe samā▫e.
One colored in creator’s understanding, relinquishes egotism. One colored in creator’s understanding, stay absorbed in truthful.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
Nām raṯe jog jugaṯ bīcẖār. Nām raṯe pāvahi mokẖ ḏu▫ār.
One colored in creator’s understanding, contemplate upon ways to so find. One colored in creator’s understanding, discover the door to salvation.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩੨॥
Nām raṯe ṯaribẖavaṇ sojẖī ho▫e. Nānak nām raṯe saḏā sukẖ ho▫e. ||32||
One colored in creator’s understanding, get understanding of the three worlds. Nanak, one colored in creator’s understanding, always finds eternal comfort.
