Gagandeep Ahuja - Punjabnewsline
Tuesday, 26 July 2011 Barnala has done an irreparable loss to the state by playing a dubious role NABHA(Patiala): Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today dubbed the former Chief Minister of Punjab and Tamil Nadu Governor Mr Surjeet Singh Barnala as biggest traitor of the state by asserting that he had always ignored the interests of Punjab for his own vested interests.
Talking to the media persons here on the sidelines of his Sangat Darshan programme Badal asserted that he has always refrained from making any personal attack on Mr Barnala whereas the reality is that the latter has done an irreparable loss to the state and people by ignoring their interests. Training his guns against Tamil Nadu Governor, the Chief Minister said that whether it was the issue of Rajiv Longowal Accord or that of the treaty of the waters of Punjab, Barnala has always played a dubious role by acting at the behest of the Union government.
Badal said that Mr Barnala had in order to become Chief Minister of the state joined hands with the Congress by misleading Sant Harcharan Singh Longowal for signing the Rajiv Longowal accord, despite of the fact that it was against the interests of the state and he along with Former Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) President late Mr Gurcharan Singh Tohra had opposed it. Similarly he said that Mr Barnala had in order to retain his Chief Ministership accepted the constitution of Iraadi Tribunal for the sharing of waters of Punjab whereas the legal experts had forbidden it. He also said that even Mr Barnala has taken extension as Governor from the Congress led UPA government without even seeking the permission for it from the party. “How can a true Akali take extension as Governor from the Congress government knowing well that it is the biggest enemy of the state” asked Badal. The Chief Minister reiterated that the Shiromani Akali Dal is committed to support Veteran social leaders Mr Anna Hazaare on the issue of drafting of the Lokpal Bill. Similarly Mr Badal said that they are also committed for bringing back the black money from the foreign banks and exposing of the names of the people involved in it. On a query regarding the non payment of dues by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to the state government Mr Badal said that the Union government has always done injustice with the state. He said that despite of the fact that they had took up this matter a number of time with the Union government no positive result had came out.
Commenting on protest by some farmers of Mansa district against setting up of the thermal plant in their area the Chief Minister said that more then 95% of the farmers have voluntarily given their land for the plant and the hue and cry is being made by some those elements who do not want progress of the state. Mr Badal reiterated that the SAD-BJP government of the state has during its present term initiated a major recruitment drive for providing the jobs to the youth of the state. He also said that their government has ensured full transparency in these recruitments and merit has been the sole criteria for the selections.
During his Sangat Darshan programme of 62 villages in the Nabha Assembly constituency Mr Badal listened to the grievances of the people and asked the district administration to redress them. The Chief Minister also disbursed a grant of around Rs 3.70 crore for developmental works in these villages. Earlier Mr Badal laid down the foundation stone for the construction of library on the name of renowned writer and scholar Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha at the cost of Rs 80 lac.

| | | | | Re: Barnala biggest traitor of Punjab, says Badal Isn't this a case where Badal is dredging up business from the past in order to create issues/controversies to "advance his cause." Whatever his cause may be at any particular moment. There is something ridiculous about taking issue with Barnala, unless Badal is really worried about his re-election prospects . Whoops, I am wrong. Taking issues cuz he has more than one issue with Barnala. In time we will find out what has transpired behind the scenes and it will make more sense. |

It appears it is well summarized in the following phrase, Quote: |
Politics is the art of getting in power, and staying in power.
| No mention of people, ethics and tactics.

There is another phrase which describes some of it for Punjab, Quote: |
People get what they deserve.
| You cannot elect and then complain. Only people who voted for him should complain and complain by not voting for him again.
When you have a circus of clowns to choose from, may be they will elect another clown. This is an issue with so called modern democracy that political process has been made so expensive that no one dares to enter and a have a chance to win without lots of money and connections.
Most of the time it does not feel like "Government of the people for the people". This does not happen in Punjab alone. It is a worldwide phenomena.
