    Animals And Vegetables

If the only meat that people ate came from hunting, then there might be some truth to the idea that "if we humans did not eat meat, animals would over-populate the world and cause problems." But that's not the case - at least in the Western industrialized nations, almost all the meat consumed...

    General Jap Ji Sahib Ipod

Have you checked gurbanifiles.org? There are many different files there - the files with English translations can be found at Files with English Translation & Phonetic Transliteration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib . What I've found useful is to print (or in your case, download to iPod) the version...

IK ONG KAAR- The Nature And The Nurturer

The Wikipedia entry on "Mitochondrial Eve" discusses this theory: There's also more in the article "Recent single-origin hypothesis". Both articles include links to other information sources.

    Absolute Nothingness ?

I don't think absolute nothingness is possible. Research has shown that even in deepest space, where astronomers and scientists used to think nothing exists, there is the background "hum" of energy left from the Big Bang. To me, this is an example of how Waheguru's Naam vibrates everywhere...

    Sehajdari Sikhs As SGPC Voters

Re: History of Sehajdari Sikhs ?? There is no such thing as a "sehajdhari" jew, true. However, there are many different "kinds" of jews -- orthodox vs. reform is only the first distinction that comes to mind. There are different "kinds" of Christians -- Catholic, Episcopalian, foot-washing...

Islam Quran - To All Sikh Students

I don't know enough to express an opinion one way or another on the Quran -- although I do agree with the statement, "I can conceive of no knowledge so useless that I would be better off in ignorance of it" -- but I disagree strongly with the statement "Sikhism is rotting at this site." From...

    Who Is God In Sikhism?

What an interesting thought. I've come across many pieces of writing by Sikhs saying that Nanak 1 and Nanak 10 (and all the Nanaks in between) were the same consciousness and thus there are no contradictions and, in fact, there cannot be any contradictions between Nanak Dev Ji's teachings and...

    Sikhism And Homosexuality

As gay and transgendered friends of mine have said, "If this were a voluntary choice, do you think I'd really choose to make myself a target of discrimination, prejudice, and violence?" I think everybody should be judged by the same standards, whether they're gay, straight, bi, asexual...

    Who Is God In Sikhism?

Religion of Bobism? Well, there's always the Church of the Sub-Genius... Seriously, though, my understanding (gathered from reading different sources) of what Sikhi believes/teaches about God/Waheguru/the Ground of All Being/choose your term is roughly the following: There is only one...

    Confused In Life

This is extremely unhelpful advice for someone who's struggling with depression. If you're depressed, you already feel like you're worthless and a waste of oxygen -- the last thing you need is to have somebody tell you that you should also feel bad about feeling bad. Also, comparative misery is...

    Confused In Life

To avoid falling asleep while meditating, I find it helps if I meditate some time during the middle of my day, rather than immediately after waking up or right before going to sleep. Also, sitting upright with legs crossed helps -- if I get drowsy, my head falls forward and I wake up.

General What Are You Currently Listening To?

Re: What are you currently listening to...? Usually lots of Dya Singh, either listening while following along on a printout (Japji Sahib, Rehiras, etc.), while meditating (Sukhmani Simren), or while chanting along (the Waheguru Simran track from the Naam: The Inner Journey CD).

Sikhs For Change: Language - A Barrier For New Sikhs?

Re: SFC: Language - A barrier for New Sikhs? English-language katha - hurray! If you're able to put up transcriptions as well, that would be wonderful. When text versions of katha or other articles are available, I like being able to print out a copy and tuck it inside my journal to take it...

Jayanti/Birthday Of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji

How odd -- the listing of gurpurabs found at sikhspirit.com (the link is near the top right of the page) says that the anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's birth is observed on November 5. Does anyone know why there's such a difference? My husband and I were (are?) planning to use it as impetus...

    Sikhi And Capitalism

"Physcial Needs = Obsession for Material Goods" I disagree with this equation. It's perfectly possible to satisfy one's physical needs without being obsessed with material goods. For example: When I get hungry, I know that if I don't eat something (provide fuel for my body), I will become...
