Sehajdhari Sikh Party jumps into Punjab poll fray

PTI | 07:01 PM,Jan 05,2012

Chandigarh, Jan 5 (PTI) The Sehajdhari Sikh Party today jumped into the poll fray by releasing its first list of 21 candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. "The party has fought a long legal battle to revive the voting rights of the Sehajdhari or non-baptised Sikhs," party's president P S Ranu said. "As per the latest census 2011, there are 1.74 crore Sikhs in Punjab where only 55 lakh were enrolled by the Gurudwara Election Commission as Sikh voters in the SGPC elections...now it's the time that these 80 lakh Sikhs will definitely show their strength," Ranu claimed in a release. While making it clear that they will oppose the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, Ranu said that options to seek support from other parties who support the cause of Sehajdharis will remain open. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (Hindustan) also announced its decision to contest the upcoming polls and released names of 14 candidates at a news conference in Patiala. PTI SUN

Animal Farm News

News just in from Animal Farm, the ruling pigs have been told that in the forthcoming elections they have to consider candidates from the cows.Although the cows do have the qualifying 4 legs and tail, they lack the lustrous pink skin of the pig, and although they look like cows and not pigs, they are determined to be included in the elections as they feel they have issues and contributions to bring to the table.

One of the leading cow candidates, Daisy, said that although she did not have the skin of a pig, she loved swill, could oink, but would be pressing for pig issues to include more cow content. Sales of pig outfits rose hugely a few months ago when it was suggested all cows should become pigs if they wished to stand, but sanity has prevailed and now cows can stand in pig elections in full bovine finery.

The chief spokesperson of the cows when asked for a comment, would only say 'Moo'
