The management of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital today announced that it will conduct free hip and knee replacement surgeries for poor patients as part of its `Operation Walk 2012’. This follows `Operation Walk 2011’ in which 59 free joint replacements were carried out in January this year. The surgeries are conducted by the faculty of the department of Orthopaedics in association with a team from Operation Walk, Maryland USA.
Prem Gupta, Secretary Managing Society, DMCH today said the overwhelming success of Operation Walk 2011 had inspired the institution to continue the effort and provide poor patients with world class surgery. According to Gupta, all patients who had been operated have shown remarkable improvement and many poor patients have now returned to their jobs following their surgeries. This year we are planning to increase the number of cases to be operated on, Gupta said.

Screening camps to select patients for the event will be held at DMCH on September 18 and September 25 in the outpatient department of Orthopaedics from 10 am to 1 pm. Only those patients with disabling arthritis who are very poor will be considered.
