Amrit is not Baptism

Taking Amrit, holy drink is not Baptism, and it is not right to call it so. Amrit is Amrit and it is taking Amrit to get properly inducted into the Sikh Faith.
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/hard-talk/27571-amrit-is-not-baptism.html

Baptism is a Christian ceremony. To make others understand, we may say, “It is Baptism like ceremony”, or “Like Baptism in the Christianity, Amrit is in the Sikh faith.”
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=27571

There is the legend that Guru Gobind Singh waits for his Sikh to take Amrit and visit the Guru’s last resort, Sach-Khand Nander – Sri Hazoor Sahib, Nander, in Maharashtra, up to his or her 60th year of age.

Re: Amrit is not Baptism

Terminator Ji...
While we are at it..then lets get it 100% RIGHT.

ITS NOT "AMRIT" as well. Its KHANDEY BATTE DEE PAHUL. As written..Peevoh PAHUL Khnadeydhaar..Hoveh Janam Suhela.

The Only "Amrit" recognised in the whole of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is GURBANEE. Amrti EK Hai...only Gurbani.

Its a serious misnomer. Pahul is the Initiation Rite of Passage to Enter into the Khalsa Brotherhood first introduced by Guru Gobind Singh ji at vasakhi 1699 via the Panj and then ACCEPTED by Guru Ji Himself from the PANJ..thereby showing..Guru Gobind Singh aapeh Gur chela....and PROVING that NO ONE...not even GUru Gobind RAI has been EXEMPTED from this PAHUL. Each SIKH..must at one time or another go through this PAHUL..as Guru Ji also did ...... Leadership by Example. Without the PAHUL..one is INCOMPLETE SIKH.

WE must USE and POPULARISE our Unique GURMATT VOCABULARY...Guru...Gurdwara...Guru Granth...Pahul...Kirpan...Kesh...Kachera..Kangha.. .Karra..Ardass...

Guru..is NOT "teacher"..
Kirpan is NOT long/shirt dagger/sword/knife..
Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is NOT the "sikh Bible//Sikh Koran..Sikh geeta...Sikh Vedas..
KESH is NOT..long hair...
Kachera is NOT long/short drawers...boxer shorts..etc..
Ardass is NOT..prayer....
Gurdwara is NOT sikh church..sikh temple..sikh mandir..sikh vihara..sikh masjid...
Sangat..is NOT "congregation....
Pangt is NOT sitting on the Floor....to eat langgar
Guru Ka Langgar is not communal kitchen..free lunch..
Gurbani Vichaar.katha/kirtan is NOT "worship....singing sikh psalms..devotional songs etc...

AS per GURBANI..Each one of those Words has a very UNIQUE meaning...we must not adulterate..spoil their meaning by super imposing other meanings just to please others...

Reminds me of an old lyric i learned in school spelling bees...

The ONE "L" lama is a PRIEST.. (tibetan)
The TWO "L" Llama is a BEAST ( peruvian animal)
And I bet you a pair of Pajamas...................
Reference:: Sikh Philosophy Network http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/showthread.php?t=27571
